Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

He wasn't so gullible to think that every wolf he ran across was going to have good intentions but at the same time, he didn't want to believe that every wolf who approached might just trick him and eat his throat out. He liked to think that he had a healthy balance of caution and optimism when it came to strangers. He was never beat up or lured into a trap as a kid growing up in Glorall. He always took care of Samia and kept her from harm. He was the protective big brother and he knew the world could be a big scary place if you let it. Especially at night. He had heard the stories of going out after the sun went down, of monsters, bears, cougars and the like terrorizing wolves. He knew that he wasn't protected from the like and it would probably be a good idea to get back to Glorall and soon, but he just wasn't ready to give up finding a new face to talk to yet.

He found himself following the banks of the river, feeling his paws squish in the soft grass. His ears swiveled around alertly, trying to pick up any noise that might mean another is near. His tail swished slowly behind him, his green eyes searching the surroundings constantly. He knew to follow his instincts any time he had need to hesitate. When he heard someone approaching, someone moving at a good pace, he turned his head to the right, taking in the bright amber eyes of the wolf trotting toward him. She was beautiful, but he could tell she was older than him and her eyes held a feral energy that he didn't quite comprehend. Her coat was exotic and her eyes held his attention probably far better than they should. She was a sight to behold, but he had to remember to keep his wits about him because she was out at night, which meant that she was either ignorant of the predators that come out at night or she considered herself one of them.

The closer she gets, the more he has to fight the urge to move away from her. He could back away or at least sidestep but Thor was never the fearful kind. Samia thought of him as a hero like he didn't know the meaning of fear and he wasn't about to let her down, even if she's not here. Instead, he stood his ground, his fur ruffling but not bristling, at least not yet. Her voice was not at all what he expected though, an almost hissing quality to it like a snake poised to strike. She was saying something was loud and his ears flicked back. Was she talking about when he had asked who's there? He didn't understand the second part. His ears flicked forward again. At least she was talking instead of attacking. That had to count for something, right? Her lips tugged into a smile not befitting a lady, something almost manic, like she wasn't alogether there in the head. His instincts told him to move slow and with caution, that something wasn't quite right here, but he wasn't going to turn tail and run either. It just wasn't in him.

"I APOLOGIZE FOR BEING LOUD. WHO'S GOING TO COME?"

He couldn't help but ask. He was curious how much she knew. She held herself with confidence like she knew exactly what she was talking about and he was feeding off of it. He was entranced by her bright amber eyes and how they seemed locked on him no matter what. Her tail is up and his offers a soft swish meant to placate. He wasn't going to drop down and offer submission but he could play nice as long as she did. He was usually a COMPLAISANT guy anyway. She offered her voice again, this time talking about someone reddening their fangs. He could only assume she was talking about the predators. Was she warning him? His brows furrowed for a moment, weighing his options. He could either make his way back to Glorall and heed the female's warning or he could use this as an opportunity to perhaps make an ally. He knew that she probably wasn't the most trustworhty, but he didn't want to just skip out and regret his decision later.

His lips slowly tugged into a more confident smirk as his tail gave another swish, his eyes lighting up with an idea.

"IF THEY TRY, WE COULD REDDEN OURS, TOO."

He wondered if the idea of them ganging up together against the predators would appeal to her own killer senses. Maybe she would enjoy the challenge of having someone to fight besides instead of always being solo. Maybe if someone had offered such an outlet for her before, then maybe she wouldn't be so feral. Or maybe it just ran in her veins. He knew there were those out there who were never quite right and it seemed that every child they brought into the world was doomed to be this same way. Maybe she drew the short straw but that didn't have to mean there was no hope for her. Thor was an optimist, after all.
