trying to breathe

Moteuh watched closely as her brothers made their choices. She took keen interest in each of their actions, inactions, and motivations. It was a challenge for the little puppy to keep a grin off her face, but she somehow managed to only keep the corners of her mouth turned up. Best to let the one who had the more obvious streak of mischief be the player in their little game. It was easy to spot that Shem was the one who would create the ploy, but she would eventually step in to finish their playful trap.

Her rump plopped down, tail patting against the ground. She had to stifle yet another smirk when her sibling fell, his face in the dirt. Just a quick check with her nose to make sure he was not grievously injured and she continued the charade. At first she sniffed down the path Asriel had first pointed down. She knew their mother had gone that way, her scent was thick and heavy on the dirt. Still, she made her face fall. I don’t think she went this way. I think she chose to go elsewhere this time! Big paws shuffled over the ground and she all but skipped down the various paths that surrounded their den. Mother, after all, was a very important wolf in Tavi, many paths led to and away from the den! I think she might have gone this way. With her nose to the ground she knew full well no one had gone down this path in a few days. It was the mystery and intrigue that called her down it now. She did not know what they would find on this lonely road, but it had to be something more than what they had, something more to be sought and claimed.

She smiled at her brothers, putting on a hopeful expression. Shem would know they play, Asriel, she hoped would at least believe it. If not, at least not want to be left behind while the other two went off on their own.
