Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

I am Diesel.
The river was a soothing sound for the wolf who had been born and raised by the ocean. His mother used to keep him calm by bringing him down to the water and letting him play in the shallow tide. Since then, he'd always had an infatuation with anything water related. The sounds of the ocean used to put him to sleep and wake him up in the morning. Now that he didn't have that anymore, the river would have to do, at least until he figured out something more. He knew in time, the others might want a pack. They might want to make friends and make themselves useful. Well, except for Bandit, of course. He didn't need friends, as he always pointed out. He only wanted pets. Disgusting, really.
The summer was setting in and the spring was put to bed for another year. He could feel the weather warming up and he quite enjoyed it. It was great hunting weather and he couldn't remember the last time any of them had eaten. Orb tended to have a one track mind when he took control and let's just say Bandit had other ideas. Mags honestly just seemed too scared to hurt anything, even a fly.
He wondered if he would be able to catch anything good to eat and as if on command, a stray hare wandered into his path. It was like fate was toying with him. Diesel paused and crouched, his back legs coiled and as the hare turned to chew on a sprig of grass, he launched forward. The chase was on. The hare was quick, but he was agile, much more so than he should be at his bigger size. Of course, Diesel didn't know that truly he was only the size of Orb. He thought he was much bigger, as he was when he was born.
Even so, he used his quickness to his advantage, leaping off the side of logs and such to keep up with the zig zagging hare. Finally the hare was within reach and Diesel took the opportunity and gain an extra burst of speed at the right moment, his jaws clamping around the hare's back. He picked the hare up easily and shook it, slowing his pace as the hare began to scream and struggle. But the struggle didn't last long. Soon enough, the hare went limp and Diesel was able to set it down on the ground, beaming in pride at his prize.
"MMM, BUT THE TASTE OF BLOOD IS SO SWEET. ISN'T IT, DIESEL?"
Of course, Bandit would choose now to torment him with his thick latino accent dripping from Orb's lips. Mags quivered.
"BUT IT DIDN'T SUFFER MUCH, DID IT, DIESEL? IT SCREAMED SO LOUDLY."
Her own ears flattened to her head as if she could drown out the noise. The girl tones also dripped from Orb's lips, much different than the deep baritones of Diesel that came next in answer as he shook his head gently.
"NO, SWEET MAGS. HE DIDN'T SUFFER. IT WAS QUICK."
He tried to reassure her, his ice blue eyes soft even as they were really moss green in color, but Diesel didn't know this. His German accent was strong but he was a gentle giant. Bandit gave out a low chuckle.
"DON'T LET HIM LIE TO YOU, MAGPIE. HE BROKE THE RABBIT'S BACK CLEAN IN TWO. DIDN'T YOU HEAR ITS SCREAMS? IT SCREAMED AND SCREAMED AND SCREAMED..."
He probably would have kept tormenting her if Diesel hadn't cut him off with a sharp bark followed by a growl of warning.
"BANDIT, THAT'S ENOUGH."
He found Mags quivering in the corner, her head low and her tail tucked. He hated seeing her like that. He felt like the over-protective brother, just wanting her to be happy. She was just so damaged.
But that's when he blinked, seeing something moving in the grass. Another wolf. She was rolling in the fresh dew that clung to the morning grass. His lips tugged into a soft smile, watching for a moment before he picked up the hare and moved a little closer. Dropping the hare at his paws, he tilted his head at her.
"HI THERE. NEED ANY BREAKFAST TO START YOUR DAY?"
Despite how hungry he might feel, Diesel was always one to share anything he got.
