He often found his gaze wandering over toward the denser fog that seemed to cling to parts of Iromar as they walked. He noticed that the alpha tended to go wide around these areas, as if he knew to avoid them at all costs. Cuirass was always too curious so he found himself wondering what could be lurking in there. Other wolves? Just alligators and other prey and predators? He bet it was a good place for hunting. That is, if you didn't become the hunted first. Sounded like a challenge. He'd definitely need to check it out then. He liked that the alpha seemed to have a clear head and he didn't feel the need to set up their walk with a lot of talking. Instead it was just easy conversation spread out over several strides which gave him plenty of time to sight see and take in all that made up the pack lands of swamp and marsh. He figured they were about to come up on what should be about the center of the pack lands. He wondered why they hadn't seen many other wolves around, other pack wolves, and he wondered what size this pack was at now. Did the alpha mean to keep it small? Did he like it that way or did a lot of wolves abandon the lands when Aithne disappeared?
The alpha turned to him at a certain point, seeming to measure him up thoughtfully before he got straight to the point, asking Cuirass to find the untrustworthy and bring them forward. His ears pricked forward at this bold statement. It seems the alpha was having trouble trusting others and wanted the bad ones weeded out. He couldn't really blame him for that. What alpha likes treason in their midst? Especially a land so shadowed as this to begin with? It's like it's meant to breed secrets among the residents. Cuirass wasn't sure yet if he would like it here or not but he could at least make himself useful in the meantime. He nodded.
"I WILL START RIGHT AWAY."
He figured this is what the alpha would want to hear and he liked to stay busy anyway so why not? He would start fishing out information as soon as they were done here. He was a stranger to Iromar and mostly to Moladian now so it's not like a lot of wolves would recognize him. Eric and Seline were secretive creatures so not a lot knew about them. If there were members of Asteraia here now, then maybe one of them since he had been hunting and training with them but he didn't come across any familiar scents so he felt that it was safe to say these wolves should all mostly be strangers. Which meant they would either get to know him first and then speak openly or they wouldn't care since he was just a new stranger who could be brought over to their cause and they would bring him in on the conspiracy against the alpha if there is in fact one. Cuirass liked the sound of it already. He guessed he could see where he fit into the scheme of things as a spy. Should be fun.
There was a flicker in the alpha's eyes as he said the last words, almost like there was a catch in there somewhere. One brow raised but Cuirass wasn't one to ask questions. He figured he would just get the traitors to the alpha in whatever way or shape he could. He could be creative in that respect. There was a second option available to him, it would seem but Cuirass was already too amped up about the first. So he was to recruit someone. He smirked. Perhaps he would just do both. That should prove something, right? The alpha was watching him expectantly and Cuirass wondered if he was waiting for any information he might already have about the untrustworthy ones he was so worried about. Unfortunately Cuirass hadn't really been anywhere except to find Belhara before he came here looking for a place to call home so he hadn't come across anyone who might be slandering the alpha's name. He would have to get on that.
He looked toward the borders then back at the alpha.
"I WILL START LOOKING FOR OTHERS RIGHT AWAY, SEE WHAT I CAN CHARM OUT OF THEM. YOU MIGHT GET A TRAITOR OR A RECRUIT OUT OF IT. YOU MIGHT EVEN GET BOTH. I HAVE YET TO TALK TO ANYONE BESIDES AN OLD FRIEND AND YOURSELF BUT THE NEXT TIME WE MEET, I'LL HAVE PLENTY FOR YOU TO HEAR."
Hoping that would satisfy the alpha for now, he turned and disappeared into the mist.
