Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

I am Diesel.
The female seemed lost in her own thoughts when he first saw her. She looked so blissful, as if there's nowhere else she would rather be than in that grass. He used to feel that way by the oceanside. It was so calming with the ocean breeze on his face and the warm sun on his fur. He used to love running through the soft loamy sand while the waves lapped at his paws. Maybe he would find a place like that again some day.
The female seemed to be at peace, like she never really felt alone and he liked that. There was just something secure about her. He wondered if she had heard any of his conversation with the others. He never really thought to feel ashamed about it or try to hide the fact that he had companions. They were always with him, a part of him, and nothing would change that. He could only be himself and that's all he would ever be. She didn't seem too freaked out by it if she had heard so maybe she didn't.
She did seem a little pained by something, but it was a brief moment and then it was gone. Diesel couldn't figure it out so he shrugged it off, figuring maybe it was something in her thoughts, not something she had heard. She was lying on her back by the time he approached and when she looked at the rabbit in his mouth, something changed in her gaze but he couldn't place it. Was she upset that he had killed it? He wished he could read her thoughts. Her eyes were beautiful and exotic, orange and yet they had red in them too. Her face was like a mask of different dark colors. It made for a very beautiful, exotic look.
She blinked at him and then told him thanks but no thanks. He nodded in acknowledgement. Finally she explained, telling him that she thanked the gods before killing anything. She said that if you don't do that, it would harm your soul. His head tilted, wondering why he was never taught this. Is that why he was never alone, why this body was never truly his? He scowled in thought.
"WHAT GODS? DOES IT MATTER WHICH ONE? ARE THERE MULTIPLE? WHERE DO THEY LIVE? EXCUSE ME, FOR I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS."
He wasn't trying to mock her or anything. There was only genuine interest in his eyes as he waited for her response. Meanwhile, the others were already making their own opinions about it. Mags had tears in her eyes.
"MAYBE THAT'S WHY WE'RE LIKE THIS. MAYBE OUR SOUL IS ALREADY DAMAGED."
Bandit scoffed and rolled his eyes.
"YOU MEAN SOULS, CHICA. I DON'T SHARE NOTHIN WITH YOU PEOPLE. AND I'M NOT DAMAGED. I KEEP IT REAL."
Now it was Diesel's time to roll his eyes. His voice was bitter.
"YOU ARE THE MOST DAMAGED OF US ALL, BANDIT. NO ONE WOULD DOUBT THAT."
