aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

The heat was gone, and now when the sun shone its bright and beautiful face, it was a mild warmth that it spread across the land. The leaves were all falling, per usual in a normal autumn, but unfortunately the beauty of color was seeped and staunched due to the drought. It would not now get any worse, but the damage was largely done. Drought had caused famine, and there had been those who had died. But on a completely different note, autumn meant something else to the King - it was that much closer to winter, and that was their deadline. By the first day of Winter, he and Sebring were expected to arrive in his father’s pack. Kalgalath stopped and shook his head, his fur hanging down to halo his façade. “No… that’s not right. It’s my pack.” The words were just a murmur, no more than an uttering of his thoughts aloud, but it felt like blasphemy as it fell off of his tongue. His arctics peered around the wooded terrain that surrounded him and he smiled, a grim bittersweet curling of his kissers. This place, this pack, had been his home for so long. Had been his pack. But the time had come to abdicate his throne and move on – to a new land, to a new start. Raising his head high, he started off again, trotting proudly with his plume dangling over his dorsum.

Each step, each placement of his paw down upon the earth was solidly sure, for he knew it all. Everything that had happened to this pack in the past long few years he knew. Each member that had came and gone, each member that had proven themselves, the love gained and lost, the droughts, the famines, the storms… each would be remembered now fondly, for each interaction, alliance, and decision had brought him here. As sad as he was to leave, it was a necessary thing, and perhaps it would end up being for the best – for he was leaving his eldest son in charge of the pack. Aindreas had his own set of issues, ones that Kalgalath had not fully understood or appreciated until now, and it was the mottled king’s hope that having this responsibility would heal him. That it would change him and make him into the strong Tyrell that he truly was inside.

His muscular form broke through the clearing, and he shook his head, pausing as he was halfway still hidden in shadows. There was time enough still to change his mind. To send Aindreas to his father’s pack instead. To stay here. Kalgalath braced himself and walked forward with his lids shut, not against the light of the sun, but against his decision that he knew he must hold to. For the last time as Alpha – of this pack at least – he leapt onto his throne, the singular large boulder that had remained throughout the years, throughout all of the changes in leadership and he sighed. It felt so right to be there, so right to stay. How could he leave when his heart was telling him not to? Nape pulled back his cranium and he heard himself release a song calling to the pack in its entirety, but it was as if he was watching himself from the outside. Kalgalath fell silent and waited… waited for those who would come. He was not worried about how they would react. Though who loved him, those who he considered to be part of his family, would accept and understand his decision. But those who didn’t… well… they would have to decide whether to come with him, stay in Aurora under Aindreas’ reign… or leave. There was no other choice.
