aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

A pelt of subtle grays and white drifted through the packland. The sight of this ess was normal, common, and a usual sighting. Her honey gold orbs watched with a sort of blank curiosity as she wandered among the thinning undergrowth. The light of sun was barely touching the earth in these early hours, and a low hanging layer of fog left miniscule droplets of water across her pelt as she passed through. The rays of sunlight that escaped through did not warm her with their touch. The heat that they once emanated was gone and the death and drought that had come with it as well. Summer was fading away into the past and Fall temperatures had settled in, but the unfortunate summer had taken away the usual beauty of Fall. The leaves were already browned, dead, and falling from the trees because they had suffered from thirst and lack of nutrients all of the previous season. Everyone had suffered these consequences – Plants and animals alike. The ashen lady had had to work harder to keep her little garden of herbs in good health, carrying water to and from the river. Even then she had lost a few of her plants, their petite leaves had dried up and died in the early months of the summer, but what use was it to continue to care for the herb garden if she wasn’t going to be around much longer?

Sebring wasn’t as heartbroken as her mate for having to leave this land, but she knew that now place would ever feel as much like home as Aurora Borealis. What the Queen feared the most was for her sons and how dearly she would miss them. Would they be able to be on their own? Would they stay out of trouble? What if they had questions about life or anything? Sebring and Kalgalath wouldn’t be there for them… Sure there was Aindreas, but the boys hardly knew him. And there was Chenzii, Khaleesi, and Gwaine, but none of them were the boy’s parents. Was is it really okay to leave the boys so early in their lives? Sebring felt tears start to well in her eyes and she blinked them away trying to control her emotions. She had not felt so clueless since the day Kalgalath had rescued her. Would they think that they were being abandoned for no reason and that they weren’t loved? There was so much that they would miss from the boys lives. Their first loves, their first full hunt, and the transition of teen to adult.

It was for the better right?

Sebring wasn’t entirely sure of the answer to this question, but she knew that between the discussions she and Kalgalath had had that this was for the better for the family line. Kalgalath’s heritage went far beyond her understanding, but she did understand that it was important to him and so she would do whatever it was that was asked of her, just like the boys and Aindreas. Now that was fall was here though it meant it was time for them to take their leave and start towards their new beginning. And like usual her mates call couldn’t have been more perfectly timed. Sebring smiled half-heartedly and trotted towards the call, knowing what it meant.

She was not the first one there, she saw the black figure of Chenzii. The young woman was a trusted member and friend of Kalgalath and was the Beta of the pack. The ess had just greeted Kal, and Sebring smiled at her, Hello Chenzii, it’s good to see you. She rubbed shoulders with the onyx ess before leaping up onto the stone pillar with her King. She rubbed against him affectionately and kissed his cheek, Hello my love. She smiled at him, offering any sort of confidence and comfort to him that she could. Even if she did not understand the weight of this herself, she felt the pain it caused her mate and to her that hurt more. Have faith, they love and trust you. She whispered gently into his auditory. There was no changing what was going to happen, but Sebring had faith that the wolves of Aurora would stay loyal even under Aindreas, because they trusted Kalgalath’s judgment. Sebring sat down with her tail curled around her paws waiting for their sons and the rest of the pack to appear.
