Will Winter Return? IP: 22.214.171.124 Posted on February 19, 2017 at 09:11:09 PM by T
We are now getting into the last full week of February. And we know
that spring is just around the corner. We have just got a taste of it
this weekend with temperatures into the 50's! We remain in the 40's and
50's through this week as well. But will this mild weather last?
A few days ago it looked like we would get another shot of somewhat
harsh winter weather for at least the 1st week of March. But now it
is not looking so.
So what happened to our cold and snowy start to March. The north pole
is warming and arctic air is building over northern Canada. A ridge was
set to build near Alaska, which would help create a trough over the
eastern U.S. All the ingredients were there. But now it looks like
we have a strong Jet Stream over the southern U.S. As the cold air will
try to move down over us, impulses in the Jet Stream will push north
and keep that cold air mainly to our north. We may have a shot of
some cold into the 2nd week of March. But even if we do get cold this
time of the year it is not too awfully cold and usually only lasts a
couple of days.
I do think that we will get a few more chances of decent snow. But
the later we go, the better off we will be at melting any snow fast.
Winter may not be over for another month, but we all can get excited
for more signs of spring. Replies: There have been no replies.
