Greetings retirees,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and briefly go over my qualifications and the reasons why I am running for Trustee.
I have been with the Tampa Police Department for 12 years and am currently the sergeant of the District II detective squad. I've previously worked as a traffic homicide detective in the Major Crimes and Special Operations Bureaus, and before that I was a patrol officer and field training officer in District I. Throughout my career I've been recognized for my ability to handle complex and highly technical investigations, and my aptitude will translate well to what is required of a Trustee.
I have closely followed our pension fund since being hired. I have attended meetings, I review documents and board packages on a regular basis, and I once previously ran for the position of Trustee. During college I took undergraduate classes involving finance and accounting and investing is one of my hobbies. I am familiar with the complexities of sound investing and the importance of fiduciary responsibility. I believe that my existing knowledge will serve me well as a Trustee.
I feel that there is no greater benefit for those of us who are either active or retired than that of our pension. In order for this great benefit to remain in existence, it is necessary to have Trustees who see the importance of the position and the fiduciary duty that goes along with it. I would like to be a Trustee in order to help ensure that the fund remains a solid one. I have the dedication to continue learning about our fund and all of the responsibilities of the Trustees so I can make the best decisions to ensure the fund's continued success.
I know that retirees and surviving spouses represent the majority of the members of our fund, and I also know that many of you have concerns and issues from time to time. If I am elected I will definitely listen to the voices of the retirees, and I will plan on attending your quarterly meetings or luncheons in order to introduce myself and listen to your concerns.
I would like to thank Mr. DePolis for the vote of confidence and would suggest to anyone who is unfamiliar with those of us who are running to contact a current Trustee for their opinion.
