Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

Return to Lunar Children
BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP FOR DEATH

"The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”

She stared at him, white eyes unblinking, frozen open in disbelief. The girl watched as her father staggered to his feet, nearly stumbling and falling back over onto the ground. Although she had not known him well, he had hardly raised her, her mother had told her stories of his strength, his good-nature, his prowess both in emotional and physical warfare... This was not the man that Morrigan had loved, surely. She had perhaps been weakened by his absence, but her mother had never been pathetic as this. Ceres raised her head slightly as he began to speak, her resentment and her anger at his condition melting away with his fumbling words. He apologized, first, and for what she wasn't quite sure. For his absence, for what had happened to Morrigan and her new puppies?

Ceres continued to stare at him, her small body trembling slightly as he moved from the apology on to what had happened. The words seemed to reverberate in her ears, as if she was hearing them all at once as they increased into a crescendo of death and pain. Janus and Aine. The names of her brother and her sister whom she would never meet. She cursed her selfishness for leaving to go to Iromar, she was serving her pack and achieving her personal goals but the cost, it seemed, had been extraordinary. He stopped speaking for a moment, and in the slight pause in his hoarse words she looked at him, truly looked at him, her white eyes staring deep into his. "Please tell me it isn't true. Please tell me you're lying. Papa, please." It was what she had called him as a very young pup.

Tears welled up in her eyes, and the slight tremors in her body had turned to shakes when he continued. Proud of her, Morrigan was proud of her. And she died knowing that the man that she loved, loved her just as much, and was now truly hers. Ceres let out a choked sob. She must have been so happy, before the accident, with her new litter and her new beginnings. "Proud of me?" She whined, her usually cocky and deeper voice softening into far more soft and sweet puppyish ones. "Momma-Momma said she was proud?"

Ceres hardly ever acted her age, even Orifel had told her that she was smart beyond her years. But in this moment she felt smaller than she ever had. Morrigan was gone but her father was still here, and even though she had never really known him, he was here now... he was here now. She had seen Aranck's body lying on the ground in a pool of blood and she had felt happiness, a sense of completeness knowing that her work was finished. But death was final, and even upon seeing him she hadn't understood that- but she did now. Her mother was not coming back. A wretched sob escaped her maw and she scrambled towards her father, very nearly collapsing into his side and leaning heavily against it. She was light enough, still, that she shouldn't unbalance his shaky form.

Morrigan's scent still clung to him. His was unfamiliar, but it brought her comfort in a very instinctual way- he was the man who had fathered her, even though he had not quite been a father to her. "Papa, Momma wouldn't want you... wouldn't want you to be like this." She said through her sobs and into his matted and unkempt fur. "She w-would kick your a-ass for m-moping around." Ceres said, allowing herself a very choked laugh before bursting into tears once more. She knew it to be true, she knew that her mother wouldn't want anyone crying over her for very long, and she certainly wouldn't have wanted the love of her life to be in the state that he was... "You s-still have me, and Elowen, and Cato, and Nico, and Vesta-" She wiped her eyes against his fur and let out a few shaky breaths. "We... we all need you, now, more than we ever did."

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
