Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

Any good alpha depended on their pack just as the pack depended on their alpha. It was a mutual relationship where both parties benefit. Some alpha would bend under the pressure, either letting their pack run over them and being overwhelmed by the stress and pressure that comes with making so many big decisions while other alphas flourished under the pressure and only grew from their decisions. He could see such potential in Zelda and while other wolves her age were probably only worrying about things like what they wanted to do with their lives and maybe if they had a crush or something more, here she was ruling a thriving pack and gaining trust from her pack members. She was truly something and he could see the wisdom of Coza glittering in her eyes. She had the strength of Amoxtli holding her head high and the heart of Zeltzin beating in her chest. Maybe she had a little of his own dark side as well, just enough judgement to know when a wolf could be deserving of death. She was a complex creature but Dexter couldn't find a flaw he didn't admire.

Ruling a pack so young is one thing but ruling a pack by yourself is something else completely. He wondered how often she used to go to the Hyrule Amoxtli had mentioned to help her with her decisions. How involved was he with ruling Taviora? She didn't act lost without him, even if she was feeling it and confidence was a major thing for any leader. If she didn't feel it, she was a good actor. He could see the small scratches and bruises on her body, some fresh and some older. He wondered if she was training with someone, learning how to fight for the time when someone would step forward to challenge. The time would come. It always did. She seemed surprised that he would agree with her about Aranck dying. He guessed he should have seen that coming. Just how he wouldn't tell his father what he did for a living because he knew that his father wouldn't understand. He probably would put on a good face, maybe pretend he was okay with it but Dexter would know better because in Coza's world, everyone deserves a second chance. Everyone deserves forgiveness.

She seemed to think strongly against this Aranck wolf so Dexter could only believe that he was a bad wolf. He didn't see Zelda thinking ill of anyone without good reason. He may have never met the wolf but he was sure if he asked around enough, he would only hear more bad deeds the wolf had done while he was alive. He didn't need to, though. The wolf was dead and that was enough. There was nothing he could do even if the wolf hadn't deserved his fate. When he talked of darkness and light, something flickered in Zelda's eyes like she understood and yet she chose not to say anything or ask anything of it. Perhaps that was a talk for another time, after this whole Amoxtli poisoning scheme was taken care of. He could tell she was nervous about the whole thing. The fact that it was someone known to them, someone his own sister had a litter with...it made the whole thing more complicated. She sighed, seemingly content with turning Alistair and him loose on this. She called him uncle and his lips tugged into the shadow of a smirk. It had a ring to it.

"TOGETHER."

He agreed with a smile. He didn't expect her to hug him, his body tensing at first at the intrusion before he slowly let himself relax into the embrace. It was one thing for him to embrace his brother and father who he had known all his life, but another to have a female he still barely knew hug him like that. He was hesitant about it with wolves like Tuari as well but only done it because she was a close friend to him as a younger wolf and she was grieving. He knew that touching could help comfort someone who had experienced loss. She wagged her tail at him as she backed away and he returned the gesture, his own tail giving a gentle swish. He could see some concern in her gaze and he hoped she wouldn't worry too much. He nodded in agreement when she said that she would trust them to take care of it and to call if they needed her. She said that Eden had brought this on himself if he was involved and Dexter was happy to know sh at least was in this all the way, no turning back once it had been brought to light.

She thanked him and he shook his head.

"WE ARE FAMILY, ZELDA, AND NOW YOU ARE MY ALPHA. NO NEED TO THANK ME FOR DOING MY DUTY TO MY FAMILY AND MY PACK. I WILL SEE THIS THROUGH. DON'T WORRY TOO MUCH. YOU'LL GET GRAY HAIRS."

He gave her a teasing wink before he turned and wandered off to find Alistair, giving her one last smile to reassure her before he took off toward the center of the pack lands. He didn't want to tie her up too long. Surely she needed to meet with other pack members or do something else important.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
