At once Halcyon felt bad for having to scold Singe, like he were some kind of puppy who had disobeyed his mother's wishes. But he remained firm, watching Singe explain why he had done what he done. It was a strange concept that a wolf could not know or understand the way their own kind hunted, or even what they hunted. Then, he thought about who the pale wolf's parents might have been and it seemed to make more sense. When Singe asked about the other kinds of food that were available to the wolves, the Blood Guardian was about to go into a lesson, but was cut off suddenly by Panzer.
At once, the alpha was alert but it was already too late. They had allowed the beast to creep its way into the fields and sneak its way so close to the unguarded pair. As the cougar pounced, his deadly weapons aimed at Singe, an instinct overcame Halcyon. His pack was in danger, one of his wolves was in danger! He had never been the possessive kind, but the thought of losing one of his pack mates to the fangs of an overgrown cat made his blood boil. The fur on his neck puffed out and his tail rose high above his back. This was HIS land! This abomination was not welcome! A snarl erupted from the king's mouth as he charged forward.
Being the smallest animal present, the king might not have the same physical power of the others, but he moved with the skill and grace of his father before him. Darting to the side of those nasty claws, he knew he had to get the beast to the ground. If he could do that, it would leave it vulnerable for the two larger wolves to finish the job. Without hesitation, Halcyon tried to leap onto the cat's back, aiming to bit it on the scruff. If he was successful, he would try to drag it down with all of his weight.
If he was not able to take the beast down, he would bit the flesh hard to at least distract the beast long enough for Singe and Panzer to do some further damage. Halcyon was protecting his pack. He didn't think much about his own life in the heat of the moment. His only thought was saving those he cared about from the fangs of a nightmare.
