Re(4): We're all dinosaurs and doomed

A few days ago, quite by chance, I was re-reading Nevil Shute's "The Chequer Board" in which an altercation outside a pub in wartime London occasioned the intensifier "mucking" on several occasions. The book was published around 1950 I guess, and at that time the f-word, although in common usage, could not appear in print. Perhaps the errant schoolboys had been whisked back to a pre-Lady-C time where there was, how shall I put it, no effin' mucking.
