Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

The comfort of his presence eases away the remaining tension from my travels here. The memory of Aranck, like a poisonous fog, begins to dissipate, and in to wakes is a sort of aching vulnerability. Exodus soothes it with his presence, with his touch, and I cannot but be ensnared with him. He hunts for me as many others have done yet he asks nothing in return. No demands. No contracts. Only my company and his eyes burn bright with his attention upon me. It is a heady feeling that causes my sly smile to slip into something quite genuine, my eyes skipping back to him repeatedly as if in a dream. I had never had companionship without poison - even though I had fallen for Carnifex it had been a tumultuous relationship. He wanted strong pups and we fought frequently. I sensed fighting with Exodus would be something altogether different and likely would not happen - or if it did, it would be brought upon some crime. This companionship makes my heart swell. It is different than the leeching need of those pups and even the friendship I had shared with Malum, my brother.

I was no longer alone.

Intimacy was not something I shied from. It had been demanded of me most of my life and indeed I had capitalized on it. My body is small, frail almost, so my mind and cunning had been used to keep me alive. A runt I would forever be but beauty had blessed me. There is something yearning in exodus that perhaps makes him seem younger than he is and yet I have noticed the swift steel in his eyes. He is not innocent either nor is he plain of intellect. I craved to know more about him but pressing would come another time, when I am more willing to share my own past. For now we are new and fresh and that is enough for us as we share a meal.

I grin around a mouthful of fish at his jest, ears flicking back playfully as I swallow and press into him. His warmth is comforting. "You are quite large, my dear, so you must keep up your appetite. Don't be fooled," I warn half playfully as I take another bite. "I am an insatiable eater despite my size." Mainly because my times of having plenty to eat were sporadic so when I did I was a glutton. As the fish disappears quickly between them I finally leap up, shaking myself before preening before him. I can't help it, it has been ingrained into me, then I place a small paw against his scruff and lean down to lick his face. "Now my turn."

I wade into the water as he did, incredibly aware of his eyes on me, and find a soft spot near the edge that I dig swiftly. Water pooled into it as I step back into the creek and stand upon still legs until a group of fish swim lazily around me. Then I dart, chasing them into the hole until it is over flowing with fish. Abruptly I jump then land in the water much like a fox, tossing fish to the shore with small teeth before my tail begins a hurricane of movement as I look up, grinning. "I did it!" I squealed, surprised at just how EASY it was after I struggled my whole life. I prance around the fish, thrilled at the sudden turn in my fortunes.
