Winter in the forest was a deafening silence broken only by the rhythmic breathing of the black and white wolf next to her. She turned her violet and golden eyes from him and looked out the entrance of her shallow den where she could just glimpse the stars through their bare limbs. She sighed quietly, yearning to hear them speak to her again as they once had before. It was hard not to feel abandoned by what she once considered her close friends, now the world seemed colder somehow and it had nothing to do with the temperature. A whimper from her imprint brought her attention back to him, watching as his lips and paws twitched in his sleep fighting whatever plagued him so. She pressed her nose into the space behind his ear, breathing slowly with him as he settled down once more. It had made her happy when he had consented to stay in the forest while his wounds healed, and to be honest she felt it was healing her as well. The loss of her sister and grandparents now seemed more of a throbbing scar than the gaping wound that had been there before.

Glancing back to the sky even Singe’s presence couldn’t fight off the thoughts that clouded her mind and kept her from the once friendly stars tonight. Silently she crept out of the den and padded through the quiet forest heading directly for the one wolf who had always been there when she needed someone. Perhaps she should have thought twice about barging in on someone in the middle of the night, but the starry girl was so used to being awake when their world was asleep it didn’t seem out of place.

Until she came to the mouth of Zelda’s den, however, and peered into the quiet darkness. “Zelda?” she barely breathed her closest friends name before taking a few steps inside, ”Zelda are you awake?” No doubt her friend would be awake now with someone veritably on her door step, and perhaps a little too late she hoped she wouldn’t take it poorly. It seemed like ages ago that they had sat atop her favorite rock after sneaking out one night very much like this and forged a friendship that had stood the test of time and loss on both their parts. She just needed a reminder of that tonight and hoped Zelda wouldn’t mind, and perhaps even needed someone to talk to as well.
