It just seemed right for him to be there. The driving rain, the rolling thunder, the way their voices harmonized effortless around each other until it was all one and the same. He didn’t want it to end, but when she opened her eyes and quieted so did he, staring at her with electric eyes across the small space that separated them. It was one of the more serious moments of his life, and one of the biggest though he might not know it yet and he was trying very hard not to break the spell of whatever surrounded them. He waited quietly for her to decide the next move, unsure of what to do himself. He didn’t know why her emotions rolled and crashed like the waves all around them, didn’t know the particular struggle she face, he simply wanted to be here for her in these moments that seemed so heavy.
Curiosity and excitement sparked in his brilliant eyes when she moved toward him and it was as if he was rooted to the spot, unable to move even if he had been of the inclination. In that moment she was the sun and center of his universe and he was caught by her gravity. She moved to touch him and his heart kicked up a beat, it wasn’t that he wasn’t used to being touched as he so often invaded the personal space of others but it seemed more important somehow. When the warmth of her nose pressed into his cheek softly at first and then with more purpose it was as if the rest of the world faded away, the storm stopped and the skies cleared. He wondered if this is how his parents felt all the time. Without missing a beat he moved to nose gently at her cheek and scruff, inhaling deeply her scent both familiar and new yearning to ask what she was thinking but afraid his words would shatter it all.
