As she spoke, Halcyon could tell she was telling the truth with each word. He watched her carefully, seeing her eyes shine with determination and pride. Though he did not know much about Jinx, the king found himself wanting to. It is the duty of every alpha to know their pack mates, especially so for those among his top ranks. Nodding his head in approval, he smiled at his new Elder. "I'm sure you will. You seem to want to help Asteraia, not just for yourself, but for all those who live within. I think you will make a fine advisor and I am sure your mother would be proud."
While he may not know much about the young girl, he knew her mother. Raven had been the advisor in Iromar during Aithne's rule. She was a good wolf with a smart head between her shoulders. He was sure Jinx would be no different. Every alpha needed a level headed confidant at their side, none more than Halcyon. The scar on his throat, received by Jinx's own grandmother, was proof that his temper and personal feelings could get the better of him. It was good to have someone there to tell him he was being a fool.
Waving her compliments aside with a pleasant smile, the alpha remained quiet as he continued to listen to her words. The mention of new mothers made his ears twitch and an image flash in his mind's eye. It was quick, but for a moment, he imagined Aster sitting outside of their den, four tiny pups running around her paws. His family. One day, perhaps, his vision would come true. For now, it was best to focus on the mothers who actually had pups on the way.
"I agree. We have lots of dens that could be used as a home for expecting wolves. The plains are relatively free of dangers and make a great place to raise young. I shall speak with Aster about this, plan something with her," he said, standing up and shaking his fur to warm himself. Taking a few steps towards her, he offered her a slight bow of his head. "You've done well, Jinx. I look forward to working with you in the future. Perhaps you and I should plan a visit to Glorall or Spirane soon. We could always use more allies."
