Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

Grinning up at him, I can tell that he knows I know he's in a spot of trouble. My tongue lolls from the side of my mouth, a comical expression on my face as I watch him try to figure out just how he's going to get out of this without losing the edge he'd gained by showing off in climbing up there in the first place. My expression shifted, about to yell, 'Don't!' when he looked like he was going to jump. Surely there was a better way to get him down without him trying to prove he could damn well fly - it was only a joke! But then he took the first step backwards, and the worry that had gripped me seemed to diminish. I walked over to the trunk of the tree and ramped up onto my hind legs, my forepaws resting against the bark as I looked back over my shoulder and up at him. The going was slow, but he steadily backed his way along the branch until he reached the crux of the intersecting trees.

When he paused I barked encouragement to him, laughing at his words. "Yeah, yeah, big talker. Lets get you back on the ground, hey?" My tail waved back and forth, certain he would be able to make it back down in one piece, if not in quite as impressive of a display as it had been going up. He made his way down the diagonal branch, and I felt better as he got closer to level ground once more. But then a bark rang through the forest and my head shot up, looking past Vortigern to see the approach of a large, dark wolf. We had Zelda's leave to be here, so I wasn't exactly worried, but when a hulking wolf comes charging out of the forest at you you can't help but feel a little on edge. With tensions already high because of Vortigern's precarious situation, I felt my hackles bristle slightly as he pushed off the tree trunk and moved to guard Vortigern as he continued to make his descent.

Only then he slipped and unceremoniously slid down and off the tree, and I cringed at the sound it made when he flopped onto the ground. I stepped forward to check and make sure he was ok, but before I could the other wolf was there, calling his name and pressing his forehead to Vortigern's. I paused, stepping back and watching as Vortigern recovered and greeted his...Dad! Oh gosh; suddenly I became aware of my raised hackles and rolled my shoulders, willing the fur to lay sleek and look nice before he noticed. His attentions, however, seemed entirely focused on his son, giving me a moment to recompose myself before I stepped forward a Vortigern's invitiation. I smiled, moving alongside my friend, my belly twisting with inexplicable nerves. He was just another wolf! I would have to meet and treat with many wolves as Queen, why did this meeting make me nervous?

"Pleased to meet you, Sir," I said with a smile, but my expression faultered as Zaphkiel looked back to Vortigern. Something didn't feel right here. And in the next beat, everything fell apart. The joy and excitement of our visit to Taviora was replaced with dread and loss. Sadness gripped my very heart as Zaphkiel told Vortigern about the death of his sister Asariel. My head lowered slightly, mournful to know that someone so important to Vort was just...gone. He'd always spoken so highly of his siblings, about how he had been their protector, and it pained me to know I would never have the chance to meet his quiet sister Asariel. Some small part of me felt sick, to think that he hadn't known - how long had it been since it had happened? Why hadn't anyone come to tell him? What if something like this had happened to Sansa or Dad; would anyone bring me and my family here in Moladion the news? But when Vortigern looked to me, all of my own worries evaporated.

The only thing I could think to do was be there for him. I didn't know what he needed, or how to help him in this moment other than just to be there. I stepped towards him, pressing my shoulder into his and then letting my entire side connect with his. I lowered my head and set it gently against his neck, ears laid back in remorse. "I'm so sorry, Vort," I whispered softly, wishing there was something more that I could do, hating seeing him in pain more than anything else.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
