The firstborn foal of the season had been a disappointment - the little colt had never taken his first breath, merely a lifeless tangle of legs laying next to its mother; not really a foal at all, in his opinion. The discovery of this fact had left him less than pleased for the past few days, irritable and moody. For the sake of his mares, the next foals had better be healthy... for he couldn't be known for siring weak and dead foals. No remorse was given to the foal that could have been for there was nothing to be done but to await the arrival of the next ones.

Once again, as he had noticed with Kitty, Rhaego became aware of Shandy's absence from the rest of the herd. And knowing full well that he had covered the two within a short span, he knew from experience that it was only fitting for their births to be timed so close to one another. Slowly but without hesitation, the heavy stallion made his way to search for the young mare, muscles tensed lightly in the anticipation of what he may discover upon finding her. He trekked across the rolling terrain, senses trained and alert for anything new in his home and finally he caught the scents which led to the same thicket where Kitty had been.

The reminder of that previous sight soured his thoughts and the stallion snorted as he pushed through the tress and brush to see if the younger mare had done any differently. A pair of blinking golden eyes fixed upon him and the mealy stallion halted, staring back, ears lifting to an erect position as he studied the little bay foal alongside her mother. This one was alive. It seemed healthy from what he could see, but the stallion made no move to come closer and intrude... he was content to stand there a short distance away and observe his youngest for a time, letting mother and daughter go about their business without his interference.
