The fire in his eyes seemed to flare as she moved toward him, the curl of his lips and peals of growls that rolled from their depths all signs that she should not press so far, but she had to. Somehow she knew that he wouldn’t hurt her, that despite all of signs otherwise his teeth would never mark her skin, that the connection they shared was too strong to simply cast aside despite whatever he battled so fiercely. But she is rewarded for her efforts as she twines her long, slender neck around his own, the dark of her fur bleeding into his ruff as his growling and grumbling starts to slow. Her violet and golden eyes held hut she burrows her nose into his fur, inhaling the scent of tall plains grasses with the salty twinge of the sea as his voice finally faded back into the deep shadows cast by the trees overhead.
She had to fight the urge to pull back and look at him, to see those red-hot eyes almost glowing in the night but he needed her now, needed her here like his and for the first time she realizes she needs him in this moment too. There is a sharp intake of breath, more of surprise than anything, as she feels his nose mimicking her own as it nuzzled her neck and it broke whatever dam had been built up within her over the last few seasons. Hot tears rolled down her cheeks and her lithe body trembled slightly at the rush of emotion which possibly could not have come at a worse time, but with him so near she couldn’t fight it off any longer.
He moves to pull back this time and she lets him, sniffing a little as she settles back on her own haunches but still rather close to him. He speaks again, a voice similar to the one before but perhaps less intense now and despite his manner of speech it is comforting to her. Whether because of their bond or simple familiarity with him she has no trouble understand his meaning and she casts her two-toned eyes up towards the stars for a moment before answering.
