I did put a brief comment in with my submission to John Green, but I suspect the transit time from Melbourne might mean that Dysart never saw it. One thing I particularly enjoyed about Edwardian Pioneers was the standard of clueing, with a few inventive or unusual techniques on display and a great attention to surface reading –

‘No socks in those’ was just an indicator for the letter T (reminding me of an old Shackleton clue involving PRIEST minus PRIES)
‘Luther returning out of the blue’ involved the letters RUL coupled with the definition of CERULE
‘Early photographer’s shot of Fox’ was a cunning reference to Fox Talbot
‘Mexican cardinal’ was TRES, three in translation
The ‘endless escapade’ misleadingly included a hidden word
‘Rodin’s one’ became ON, not the expected UN(E)

Touches like these elevate a puzzle and highlight the setter’s skill.
