The Chambers application for the Mac is significantly better than the clunky old Windows version, and it's not expensive - £13.99 at the moment. It has full text search and whenever the paper dictionary is updated, it gets a free update as well. The same publisher also produces Chambers Thesaurus and the Oxford Dictionary of English for similar prices.
You can run TEA on a Mac using a piece of software called CrossOver, which runs a lot of older Windows software natively on Mac - CrossOver is £48
I very seldom turn my PC on for crossword purposes these days - I use the Mac version of Chambers for most things, and my own Solver app on iPhone and iPad for everything else. (I do have a prototype version of it running on Mac, but haven't had the time recently to finish it off and get it onto the App Store!) Replies:
