It did not take a genius to figure out that there was something different about her brother. Even she knew it and that said a lot to her skills of observation considering how young they both were. He did not cry out like she did when hunger gripped her belly, nor did he growl and snarl like she when they played with father or one another. His voice was silent... but his emotions raged.
Though he could not speak his words, his sharp eyes said them all. His teeth, as small as her own, were sharp reminders of when she played too hard or he was displeased. He might be different, but he had his own way of communicating that she had quickly learned. He was more standoffish than she, instead of charging into play as she, he tended to stand back, his inquisitive eyes forever watching, searching with deep interest and for the most part impassiveness.
But today was different. Today, she awoke from her nap with a satisfied stretch and a lazy yawn. Although the den was wide and deep enough to allow for both their parents and the pups to move about with ease, it was becoming more and more cramped and dull in the eyes of the pups. Many days her brother and she stood at the entrance to the den now, waiting as patiently as two young pups can possibly be, for mother or father to return from a hunt or whatever it was that drew them from the den during the days. Today, as she let her silver blue eyes scan the dim lighting of the den, she finds her brother once more standing at the entrance to the den, his observant eyes watchful, ears alert.
A cunning smile curves across her lips now as a plan forms in her mind. Oh she knew he would get her back, he always did... but none the less the opportunity presented itself and she was not one to pass it up. Slate tipped tail waves back and forth excitedly as quietly she stalks forward, one silent paw after the other, careful to keep her frame close to the den walls behind her brother. Only when she is right behind him does she pounce forward with a playful bark and a loud "Got ya!"
She laughs as she tries to pin him to the ground beneath her, small teeth nipping playfully at his scruff and the tips of his chocolate brown ears. Eztli was so serious all the time. She couldn't help but to try and liven the mood.
