It was not as if she did not love her brother, that she did not care for him, but her affections were aloof in much the same way as their mother's. She could not expressive it outright, it wasn't as if she could not find the words, as the girl knew she could very well say 'I love you,' but she found the expression itself to be rather lackluster and piteous in its simplicity. It was heartless in its repetition, in its easiness. Adonai cared deeply for him, she cared deeply for their mother and for the rest of their family, but love and the utterances of it was not something she wanted to nor cared to learn. She could not dream of turning away from him, for any of them, should they need her. But her life was unobtrusive, her conversations more an examination- she was close enough to him already, his nightmares became hers in time, and there was no reason to treat him with such a studied aloofness.
And so Adonai stretched out even further on the beach, playful, shimmying so she was looking at him upside-down. "Sed invenire agros sparsa plerumque occupatus." The girl teased gently, a grin upon her slender muzzle. It was curious, she thought, that they should be so close and yet so different. Perhaps the secrets that birthed them had also bound them. She figured that one day Pagan would leave Glorall. She was not entirely sure what caused the thought to cross her mind, nor why it seemed like a certainty- it was simply a nagging feeling that would not go away. He was too thoughtful, too restless, to stay as she planned to. It was a terribly sad reality, that one day, perhaps they would not be together as they were now.
She looked up at him, her gaze becoming more serious now at his inquiry. "It says so many things that I cannot understand, or perhaps can understand, but cannot comprehend. Imagine knowing every secret that the ocean has ever heard. It would drive one mad, I would think." Adonai said with a soft sigh, rolling over onto her side and gazing out across the dark blue waves. They were peaceful today, complacent almost, in their rolling motions that seemed to be ceaseless. One day, she wondered, would the ocean disappear? Would its secrets be distributed between the gulls and the sea creatures and the breeze? Would birdsongs ever be as compelling to dissect as the cautious rumbling of the waves?
Her attentions returned to her brother. "Today, it is quiet, the words just barely out of reach, too soft to make out. On nights where it is turbulent, angry, that is when I dream. Nightmares, like yours, brother." She remembered her dream of the moon, falling and crashing down into the endless sea, how badly it had scared her. Adonai pushed herself to her paws, walking almost dream-like to wade in the shallows, seawater lapping against her ankles. She glanced backwards, inviting Pagan to join her. "If I go any further, I assume it will simply swallow me whole." She said softly, her voice almost melancholy as she stretched out her neck and allowed the gentle breeze to ruffle her fur.
