Halcyon seemed to recognize him anyway so that was a good sign. The alpha smiled at him and listened carefully as he spoke. He knew the alpha had kept tabs on him and his siblings while they were here but he never really knew he would be so interested in how they grow. After all, shouldn't he have his own children he'd be raising and training? But Fen was determined to get the attention he felt he deserved and if he was ever going to get a good opinion then Halcyon's would be the best to get. He knew all of the wolves of Asteraia, after all. He sensed some amusement in the alpha's expression when he introduced himself but shrugged it off as unimportant when Halcyon didn't say anything about it. Might be something about the way he talks or even an accent or something. Who knows? Either way, it didn't matter so much as the information Halcyon could give him on training.
His own ears pricked when Halcyon spoke, saying he didn't forget him and that he was happy he wanted a rank as a spy and thief. Fen's tail started wagging at this news, glad his uncle approved of what he wanted. Then he told him that his own mother and his uncle were the best in Asteraia. He knew his mother was a spy but as a spy, she was good at keeping secrets, even from her own family. He didn't even know if she would approve of his dream but she wasn't very forthcoming with information when he tried to be sneaky about it so he had already marked her off as unreliable information. What if she didn't want this for him? What if instead of training him, she tried to talk him out of it? He knew Xerxes was the favorite and he was still doing everything he could to show his parents that he was worth their attention too. He was going to be better than Xerxes in everything! He thought about his uncle who he had yet to meet. He had tried to come across random wolves in Moladian during his bored moments but so far no luck in finding him. Guess he was always off stealing other wolves or something.
But Halcyon seemed to have other ideas about his training. He told him that he though he'd be best training with someone not related to him. Fen nodded in agreement, willing to hear him out on this. If there was someone even better that he could learn from then that's what he would do. Halcyon paused for a moment as if thinking so Fen sat down and waited as patiently as he could. Patience wasn't really in his system at this stage so he shifted his weight and sighed but other than that, he was perfectly polite in waiting for Halycon to speak again. After all, this was very imporant. He seemed to be thinking awfully hard about something. Fen tilted his head. Finally he seemed to make a decision though, telling him to go train outside of Asteraia. Fen's eyes widened at the prospect. So he could leave the pack to learn? Who would have thunk it? He never even considered that idea. He even got to choose where he went! Then he told him he could come back and challenge for a rank after his training. It was brilliant! He grinned and stood up quickly.
"This is an intriguing idea. I'll set out immediately to find out which pack's trainer has the most to offer. Thank you, Halcyon. We shall meet again."
Nodding to him in farewell, he turned on his heels and set out at a trot, heading straight for the borders. He didn't feel the need to stop by his parents' den and tell them where he was going. He would see them again soon enough or maybe he would run into them on his travels. This was something he needed to do and nothing was going to stand in his way. Watch out world!
