Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

She could feel his approach, but the countless other emotions swirling throughout her made their bond difficult to pinpoint in the thick of it all. His voice was what finally brought his presence to her attention, soft and gentle tones causing her to raise her head, though no snarl or grimace came to her face. Myrhh could not see her, and so her eyes remained empty, her face lost and confused. He drew closer, and Vasily breathed in shakily, unsure of his touch and if she wanted it or not. She pressed her body uncertainly against him, hesitation in her movements, but her dark fur brushing against his felt right in a way that seemed to soothe her aching heart. "Thank you." Her voice was quiet and hoarse from crying. In this moment, she was perhaps the most gentle she had ever been.

Her sobs had abated for the moment, but the fur of her cheeks and face was crusted with tears, the whites of her eyes reddened and bloodshot. For a moment, she felt an almost unbearable urge to sink against him and let her emotions overtake her, to cry and mourn in the comfort of another. It scared her, and in an instant his touch felt foreign, uncomfortable like a den made of sharp rock. Vasily pulled away, pushing herself to her feet, and blinking away the last of the tears that had gathered in the corners of her bright eyes. The moment of vulnerability had passed, her body had returned to its cage, her mind to its four towering walls. Myrhh had been made privy to a glimpse, but only just. The young woman felt entirely unable to let him in entirely, not now, not here. But despite her sudden change of heart, she couldn't bring herself to snarl or snap at him to leave. Perhaps the energy was simply not there.

"You... You know what happened, I am sure." Her voice had not regained its usual vigor, but it was harder now, more unapproachable. "Pine, Iromar's alpha, is doing what she can to figure out what has happened. But... I have my suspicions, Myrhh." She cleared her throat and shifted, tears threatening to spring forward from her eyes again. "Does your sister have anything to do with this?" There was a hint of something akin to betrayal in her words, even though she knew that Myrhh could never be involved in something so horrible. But Vitaliya was his sister, and family bonds could be strong. If that wretched vixen was involved, Vasily knew that he would need to choose.
