Will Summer Heat Return IP: 126.96.36.199 Posted on June 26, 2017 at 06:52:13 PM by T
The pattern over the Northeast U.S. this past weekend and the start of this week, is
more fall and winter like than summer. A large pool of cool air in the upper
atmosphere is spinning around the Great Lakes and Northeast. We even had some
lake effect rain showers east of Lake Ontario this morning. This cool air
overhead destabilizes the atmosphere. When a heat source like the lake or when
the sun heats the ground, the warmer air wants to rise up through the cold
air as it is less dense. But when this air rises it quickly condenses into
clouds and showers. At night when we have no heat from the sun, the showers
do fall apart. Tuesday will be another repeat with scattered showers and
storms firing up during the afternoon.
The heat and humidity will make a run at us late Thursday. Friday will be
a similar day to last Friday with warm temperatures and very high humidity.
We will be at risk of a few scattered showers and storms. This heat will
last into Saturday with more storms around. We do cool down for the first
few days of July. Right now it looks like the heat returns just after the
4th. We should see plenty of 80's around into the 2nd week of July. Right
through the end of July looks warm. But not expecting much record breaking
heat here in the northeast. Fairly seasonable for July standards.
We will see if we can let up on the rain in July as well. But for the next
week to 2 weeks we will have plenty of chances of rain. Replies: There have been no replies.
