I recall attending all these events in Tampa, and many of them down in Miami. In the earlier years, no betting was allowed but I believe in the late 1980s, partido betting was allowed on the two teams with a win bet only (of course).
The fronton would be about 90% full - even with the event usually taking place after midnight with no betting - proving that good jai-alai was appreciated - even without betting. With guys like Bolivar (and many others) representing Tampa and taking on the strong Miami players, there was no better jai-alai. Long points with never a drop ball. Replies:
