INSIDE JAI-ALAI FOR MONDAY, OCTOBER 21ST, 1996 //BY JEFF HOLTZ

GOIXARRI AND AZPIRI TAKE SECOND ROUND OF FALL CAMPEONATO

-----Goixarri and Azpiri relied on patience and defense to take the game's
two best points and grab Round Two of Milford's Fall Campeonato tournament
on Friday night.
-----The key exchange happened at the start of their second trip up out of
Post Five, when they outplayed Lander and Raul, forcing the backman into a
drop at "possible". It began a run of four straight double-points that led
to victory when Iruta missed a backhand pick-up.
-----In the game's first rotation, Goixarri and Azpiri waited out a superb
defensive showing by Acin to capture their initial point.
-----"Lander had a chance to win when he caught the ball on his right side
and went to throw the pica," remembered Goixarri. "I ran up and grabbed it
on the fly. It was a fast ball. If it bounced, it goes over our heads."
-----Lander and Raul secured a Place and five tournament points. Olate and
Cruz finished third and got three points, while first round winners Zabala
and Acin wrapped up fourth and added a point to their field-topping total,
which now stands at eight.

CAMPEONATO STANDINGS-THROUGH ROUND TWO

-----Zabala-Acin 8 points, Goixarri-Azpiri 7 points, Lander-Raul 5 points,
Borja-Retolaza 5 points, Olate-Cruz 3 points, Urquidi-Alfonso 3 points and
Jandro-Lasa 1 point.

CAMPEONATO THIRD ROUND POSTS

-----Post 1-Iruta and Badiola, Post 2-Lander and Raul, Post 3-Urquidi and
Alfonso, Post 4-Zabala and Acin, Post 5-Borja and Retolaza, Post 6
