This afternoon's edition of the fabulous Doubleplusgood show with the superb DJ Lizbot (on WPRB from Princeton NJ) included 'Life Up In The Stars' in the same set as 'Tilting Windmills' by Newell favorites The High Llamas. Always a fascinating and rewarding listen.
Speaking of women with stunning musical taste, the picture is not Lizbot but rather Brazil's Victoria Bayma Furtado who enjoys nothing more than taking her guitar to her bedroom and singing Tales From Topographic Oceans! (among other Yes covers)
And she's not alone - Martina Vesta is a young Italian lady with classical voice training who has done a boatload of Van der Graaf Generator covers (as well as Pink Floyd, Genesis, King Crimson, and oddly She's Bought a Hat Like Princess Marina). She won't make anybody forget the originals, but where where these chicks when I was 20?
I suppose there's a Japanese lass out there specializing in Cleaners covers. Well there should be. Replies:
