Of little faith

The sun hung heavily in the sky, just a little passed noon and the warmth upon Dragomir’s back was making him sleepy. One eye blue while the other was brown speckled with blue barely peeked out from drooping lids while the stallion made a scan of the shore and the gentle waves between him and his destination; Luthien. He was determined to get there, to see if his family had returned despite the dreading feeling they hadn’t. But not yet, not when a nap was calling his name.

He had just begun to doze off when a new scent reached his pink nose, making it flare slightly to drink in the perfume and salt. Blinking open his eyes, he peered down the shoreline where the wind blew in his face and noticed a mare rise from the sands where she had apparently rested after her swim before disappearing among the trees and colorful vegetation of fall. Though he did not rush after her, Dragomir did begin a lazy walk down to where her tracks led from the water to the foliage where he turned and followed. It did not take him long to see her standing beneath the tree watching others.

Stopping still some distance away; she was actually closer to the others than she was to him, the stallion had to think whether this was worth it or not. Though it was clear she was not as wary as she should be for a mare standing in the Commons, but she was not the only one in danger here. Dragomir could be claimed as well should a mare decide to take him home, but he couldn’t leave the mare there without at least warning her.

Giving a heavy sigh, Dragomir walked the distance between them and only when he was a horse length away behind her; safe from hooves yet close enough for comfortable talking, the stallion cleared his through to get her attention. “I wouldn’t advise you to stand here too long. Should a stallion take a liking to you, he has every right to force you home.” He explained, his gaze watching her steadily as if it was no never mind to him whether she listened or not. At least he had given her the warning.
