even angels have their wicked schemes

The first death had been suicide, and for that alone he should have remained dead. There was no self sacrifice to it, nothing but a reminder of what the act meant for someone else. It was an escape from a breaking point. Alas, it only came to light that most of it was done based on lies he'd been told and acts that he no longer viewed as problematic. It was terrible and tragic and none of it mattered in the end. He was still around, and he'd had plenty of time to contemplate the basis of how his life had progressed on account of lies others had told him. All of it made a certain ironic sense to him, because he was a creature that viewed lying as the highest evil, and something he could never to.

There had been moments when Quinn wished that he had been able to force himself to say untruths, but this simply was not in him to do. How bad it really had to be when the truth was worst than anything else; Quinn had lived through those situations. He had lived through enough situations in general; enough that now when a deity scoffed at his age and expriences, Quinn regarded them with a quiet bemusement, because they could go eons in monotone and still claim to be more, and Quinn did not often find this to be true. He knew what he was and what he had gone through, and they could try to belittle him all that they wanted, but it would never really get to him; not when it came to that, at least.

There are other weaknesses to exploit, though he would rather they not find and poke at those. Lately, he was just avoidant. In most aspects of his life, he was too content to go causing the kind of trouble he'd be dealing with for long periods of time. Things that cause muck up the things in life that he had, that he cherished. Quinn was being more careful this time around. And going around saving children from falling off of a roof, it would appear. Quinn had heard the gasp from the child when he took her from the roof to bring her to the ground, and once she was there, she tumbled a little. Quinn was already going to get the mouse and bring it back, though he could feel the poor thing's frantic heartbeat at the touch.

And that mouse was hidden from sight once he had let it go, and the child was thanking him. Quinn blinked at her, shifting from one talon to the other in keen discomfort of the spoken words. He supposed the fae here were too humanized and young to understand most of the old ways, but that didn't mean Quinn had to be okay with it. For now, he just let his mind pass it by. Aura was on the ground with them now, and even she had said the word and Quinn puffed up indignantly; feathers all on end. Then he gave the child another good look. Look at that, these two had the same exact eye color. That, and Aura was asking over the child's mother's name. Poppy. Quinn knew that one, too. He debated on these things.

Perhaps Aura knew what she was saying, if this was family. That part made more sense, he supposed. But it was still wrong for fae to say it, in Quinn's opinion. Different starting races of fae, though. That might make enough difference. Still, he felt annoyed all the same. At least he wasn't seeing red and spitting mad; that was something. Hard to be mad when he was casting an incredulous look at the child when she was talking about next time going on the roof. Eselda, daughter of Poppy. Sounded like an ongoing family tree lesson today. When it came to asking of names, Eselda was looking at him, too. Quinn gave the smallest of sighs, figuring he needed to shift back now.

So he stepped back and let the flames grow higher and thicker to hide the transformation from phoenix to fae form, and then stepped out of the lavender fire and let it die down. He sent a quirked eyebrow look at Aura, then looked at Eselda. "I'm Quinn. Interesting way to meet you, Eselda." He responded, then he watched as Eselda dashed over to scoop up a robin and come back over. Lucie the robin. Quinn gave the bird a thoughtful look. So this was the reason that Eselda was on the roof. "You shouldn't worry Eselda like that, Lucie." He said to the bird, unconcerned on if the bird was intelligent enough to take anything from those words or not.

(( i'm cool with the doubloons split, and i'd really like one of the one use summons and one of the imitation staffs, if you two don't mind? ))
