aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Though Sera would generally have balked at the sight of so much blood on a wolf, she had approached Vlad nonetheless. It was a small comfort that most of it did not belong to him, though she made every effort not to avoid looking at Kael. If she tried really hard, perhaps she could pretend that it was not he who had been killed. Sera circled Vlad, taking in the damage. Of the two, he had fared far better, though she made note of the wounds to his back. She would be sure to help him care for them and make sure that they didn’t get infected. They didn’t look bad, but what did she know? With any luck, there would be no lasting damage. His mental state, however… that had a larger chance of being affected.

Sera had assured the prince that she would get over it, which was true. She would get over it because she had to. It was either that or dwell on the matter and let it run amuck in her head. But she hadn’t been the one who killed him. It didn’t seem like it would do them any good to discuss it now, at any rate, but Sera would be there for Vlad if he ever needed to talk about it. Assuming he’s let her, anyway. Instead, Seraphina settled for asking whether or not he was ok. The prince nodded, but winced immediately after and Sera watched him with concern. Vlad’s body shook, as though he could collapse at any moment and Sera took a few steps closer just in case. “I will be fine Sera. I just need to rest. I am tired… so tired.”

A prolonged silence fell over the pair as Vlad tried to answer the ethiopianess’ question. Every so often he would open his mouth to speak, only to close it without a word. Sera waited patiently, watching him carefully. Eventually, Vlad seemed to figure out what he wanted to say and launched into an explanation. Seraphina cocked her head and listened with furrowed brows, trying to make sense of it all. Magic and vampires… it all sounded rather farfetched to her. And normally Sera would reject such notions and chalk it up to Vlad being over tired. But his eyes, and the fact that she had watched him die and return, were obviously not normal. Magic or not, something was certainly going on. So the princess nodded slowly. Maybe she would wake up and this would all be some crazy dream that she was having.

“I know how this all sounds Sera, but it is all true.” Sera raised her brows, still nodding along to his words. She’d have to take his word for it then. “But right now there are only two things you need to know. The first is that everything is about to change and the world has suddenly gotten a lot more dangerous and strange. The second…” Vlad paused briefly. “the second is that you are my Soulmate.” Sera’s emeralds widened and she looked up at Vlad as he took a step closer to her. “It is hard to explain… but we - our bloodline, my bloodline - the Tempests… we have only one wolf made for us. There is only one wolf we can love. There is only one wolf meant to give rise to our pups. And for me, Sera? For me there is only you.” Sera thought her heart might stop then and there, breath hitched in her throat. Even if she had doubted what he had said before, she wanted it to be true now. Desperately. “I love you.”

Seraphina couldn’t help the heat that rose to her face. It had been bad enough when she’d confessed to him, but hearing Vlad tell her that he loved her? That was a whole nother story. It felt strange to hear it, but it was nice. It was really nice. She smiled up at him, face lit up with joy. “I love you too.” It felt right to say such a thing. On a day like this, with her betrothed lying dead not more than a few feet away, she probably shouldn’t be so happy. And yet, she was. Sera moved towards Vlad, but stopped before touching him, crinkling her nose. “But I’ll love you even more once you clean up.”

Gently, Sera pushed her muzzle into a bit of fur that wasn’t bloody, hoping to encourage Vlad towards the lake. He was tired and needed rest, but he would feel better if he was clean. The wounds on his back would be better off for it as well. Pausing, Sera looked at him sideways. “How can you be sure?” She asked softly. What if Vlad was wrong and found someone else? Sera truly didn’t think she could bear to see that. “What if you’re wrong Vlad?”
