avalon -----
by masquerade out of pandora

Her walls and feigned disinterest are beginning to crumble. Avalon isn’t the type to fight against making a friend, but it had been an interesting experiment to see how long she could hold out. She can’t make it too easy for him, however; she would never hear the end of it. They both appear to be enjoying themselves, so it’ll be sad when this whole exchange finally ends.

Her bright blue eyes track his every movement, every twitch of his skin, every detail in his face. She can’t deny how handsome he is – she can barely see the white markings on his pale pelt, as opposed to how stark her own speckling is against the dark backdrop of her body. His eyes are paler than hers but no less striking and she has found herself becoming entranced by him without realizing it.

She has to give herself a little shake to keep herself from being obvious. ”Well, I wouldn’t want you to get used to it…maybe I won’t call you anything,” she teases, still smiling. Whatever she’d ever heard about smiles being contagious is obviously true; as long as Zevulun is smiling, Avalon can’t seem to stop either.

Her theory is confirmed when the stallion admits that it’s actually his sister who runs the Bay. ”Ah, so you’re just a minion then,” she says with a chuckle. ”You get to do all the boring boy stuff.” Really, she’s never understood what about fighting is appealing to stallions, who seem to do so much more of it than mares. To be fair, there are probably internal threats that he would have to deal with too, in which case, she isn’t sure she’d want to spend much time there. ”Is it so dangerous in the Bay that a guard is needed?”

She tries to keep the anxiety out of her voice but isn’t completely successful. She hopes he won’t think she’s a coward, incapable of dealing with danger. Deep in her subconscious, she wants him to convince her that she would be happiest with him. On the surface, she only knows that she enjoys their banter.

A shiver goes down her spine at his lowered voice and she hates her body for betraying her. She doubts he’ll miss it and she doesn’t want to give him any more ammunition. He doesn’t seem to be phased by anything she’s tried to do to throw him off his flirtatious game. She can admit silently that the idea of being alone with him in a cave does sound exhilarating but she isn’t ready to admit it aloud. All she can do is look straight into his eyes as emotion flares in hers. She has a feeling that the jig is up. She’s got nothing left to pretend to fend him off with.
