My jaw stills mid chew as a wave of adrenaline chills my body.
I feel movement; its close, my shapely ears twisting and turning and my eyes wide searching for the source. I snort so sharply my throat stings and as I suck air back through my flared nose I invert my top lip and push the surrounding scents somewhat into focus. I determine my stalker as equine and female just as a large cream-coloured figure bursts from the tree line on my near side, its head low, determined and surprisingly aggressive. An unearthly screech is squeezed from my chest as I lurch to my right and arch tightly towards her, my ears flattening against my poll only to reappear moments later strained toward my surprise aggressor, my mind still attempting to grasp the sudden commotion.

She looks rather formidable barrelling straight towards me, the pale moon lighting her even paler coat giving her a somewhat ghostly glow. We are equal in size, or at least it appears that way as her long feathered legs continue to eat up the Earth between us, bringing her closer and closer and giving me no space or time to think. My large hooves bite into the dirt and I squeal wildly as I explode into a canter toward her, my ash-coloured nose aimed at the open space between her and the treeline beside us. I plan to pass her, turn her around. Hopefully slow her down enough to perhaps talk my way out of it, or at least give myself some time to breathe.
