Was I left behind?
Tell me, tell me I survived.

I am fuming, so much so that I can barely hear the sounds of the crashing waves at my ankles over my deliberate, harsh exhales. I couldn't get away from Gabbar fast enough. I knew the second I spotted him along the beach that this would not end well, that everything I had worked so hard to put behind me would be so blatantly pushed to the forefront again. And here I was, angry and full of despair all over again.

I barely hear his voice call out, but in seconds, here's nearly at my side, pleading with me for some kind of solace I know I won't be able to give him. I warn him to keep his distance with two blunt rows of snapping teeth. But something in me holds me back. My gaze shifts to the sand that sticks to my damp brown legs and I stay, despite knowing better. I look to Gabbar again after a long silence, my eyes heavy and tired, all of a sudden. "Yes, Valve." I confirm first, swallowing hard. I don't think I've ever said it aloud before. "Valve killed Kasabian." I flick my tail almost violently over my hocks and shift my weight nervously in the wet sand.

"Valve is still in the Dunes, as is Evaline. She gave birth to two monsters. The sire appears to be Kasabian's crony from that day. Like you, we never saw him again." I explain begrudgingly.

I say nothing for a long time, crooning my neck so that my chin rested on my shoulder. I didn't want to look at Gabbar anymore. With a loud snort, I decided I had had enough for today, it was time to go home. So I take a few steps forward and away from the beach, halting for just a second more but I don't look back at the bay stallion. "We've worked hard to put this behind us." I begin. "Maybe you should too."
