He watched her closely, eyes intense and desperate to pick up everything he could. His heart started to sink when she began a longer explanation. Ears drooped, but he was determined not to look away from her in shame. Instead, he tried to focus even more on her lips and her words, yearning to know what the word ‘imprint’ meant. Each word was a struggle for him to place and with each sentence his ears lowered flatter against his neck, working opposite of how they would have normally. When she was done speaking, he sat with a thump and tried to piece through the information he had gotten. Abstract concepts were still a challenge for him to place in his mind. A soul was not something he could see, and could not place an image to to understand. But he could not deny his thoughts and his feelings at any given time. They were his being and who he was. He could not recall someone telling him he was, is, or had, a soul. His existence was unquestioned though, and that he could understand. Looking back at the wolf in front of him, he knew his existence and a part of his purpose had changed when he saw her. He could feel an urge and a need towards her. It was all deep within him, penetrating his stomach, his chest, his heart. She had come to fill his mind and his body. He thought for a moment, if he now carried a part of her then he would take care of it. In that heartbeat, he felt she deserved it.
He was so focused on trying to sort through everything that had just been said to him he had almost missed her next question, for he had been looking at her toes while he was trying to think. Blinking, he tripped over his words a little more than usual. Zeru… is my name. You? He shuffled awkwardly on his paws now, still trying to understand what this all meant while still trying to fight his desire to rub against her, letting her scent fall on him to say he belonged to her. Ears swiveled and flicked around and his eyes focused on her again, readying him for another important question. A piece of each other? His face fell slightly before turning hopefully at her. Do you feel it too? He could not really place words to what ‘it’ was. The closest he could think was the feeling of need. Like the need to eat, which had been explained to him over the corpse of a deer. Or the need to drink from a river. He felt the need around her, and only looking at her was able to state it.
...there are words I need to say...
