Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

holding on to what we used to be
a d d i c t e d • t o • a • m e m o r y

I wasn't nearly qualified enough for motherhood, not without a mate. From the time I was a pup my life had been laid out in front of me: I would train under the elder Speaker and, upon coming of age, be elevated along with Quixote to the leadership position at the right hand of my brother and spend my remaining days directing the pack's actions as the Dream Speaker. No hunting, I was too valuable. No offspring, my Dreams were too important. All that went out the window when my life went up in flames and my brother led me from our scorched forest; the survival of my pack and my bloodline rested on our haunches. Now it's just my haunches. I barely managed to feed my surviving pup on our pilgrimage to Moladion because I'm a terrible hunter, and I couldn't even foresee this unseasonable blizzard!

I make my way back to my den, plump rabbit in tow, weaving my way through the forest past marked trees as the storm picks up. I count my blessings for having caught my prey before the snow fell as I fight my way through too-deep slush; how is it already up to my underbelly?? A sound catches my ear, reflexively jerking my head and slowing me to a trot. There it is again, that can't be... I fight through the freezing slush towards the phantom voice, and drop the meal meant for my boy as his dark figure is swallowed by the snow. MALACHI!! In an instant, the distance between us is closed and I claw and fish for my son, the snow stinging me until I find my target and free him from his prison. He's practically frozen solid! It's ok baby, momma's here, you're going to be ok. He manages to get to his feet and I quickly snatch up the hare and nose him along at a brisk canter.

It doesn't take long to reach our den where I immediately drop the rabbit and curl around Malachi, desperate to clean him of snow and ice and warm him before he's further affected. Don't. Sleep. I order firmly; I can't lose you too, not so soon after Isabelle! Malachi manages to squeak back a response and I feel a little relieved. Stories, they seem to be all I’m good for since losing my connection to the Moon and the Dreams she gifted me, I think my dear son was a fair trade. I smile endearingly and tighten my hold on my boy, chuckling lightly. Another hero story, hmm? How about Tekiotl* the Demon Slayer~! Malachi does love his heroic tales and his excitement is doubly reassuring, it’s impossible for me not to swoon at his reaction before beginning in earnest.

Long ago, before the mountains rose, before the seas filled, and before the forests grew, there was a mighty wolf by the name of Tekiotl who was known the land over for being able to capture any prey; no beast was too large nor too quick nor too tough for Tekiotl. Tekiotl’s aunt, Nochtli**, was the Dream Speaker for his pack, and warned Tekiotl of the dangers she foresaw. For many, many years he kept his pack well fed and safe from predators, until Nochtli warned of Demons to come. Massive walking nightmares of shadow and flame, they were unlike anything anyone had ever seen! The Speaker told of countless packs beyond the horizon that fell to the beasts, but Tekiotl was the biggest, strongest, fastest wolf, and he was not afraid of the Demons. You cannot fight the Demons, Tekiotl. They are stronger than you know, you must outwit them! Against the pleas of the Speaker, and determined to prove his greatness, Tekiotl ventured out to meet the Demons in battle that they would be stopped for good. Despite towering above the wolf, Tekiotl was not afraid as he engaged the Demons, biting at their hides and clawing at their horrible faces- but his advances were quickly stopped when he was struck to the ground with a single blow! Badly wounded, Tekiotl returned to his pack ashamed, and as his wounds were tended to, the Speaker Nochtli appeared before him once again. Tekiotl. I warned you not to face the Demons, but now they have been provoked, and I have seen our pack’s end by their flames. As he healed, Tekiotl thought about what the Speaker had said, and what she had meant by it. Determined to change fate, and prove the Speaker wrong, Tekiotl set off one last time to face the Demons. This time, he did not directly attack them, but rather provoked them, and led them to a great lake. The Demons, so enraged by the quick Tekiotl, were tricked into the lake where they succumbed to the water and hardened to stone! The great Tekiotl returned to his pack triumphant in his quest after heeding Nochtli’s wisdom. Tekiotl would go on to be a great Alpha, but those are stories for another time. By the time my story was finished, Malachi had stopped shivering and I gave him an affectionate kiss on the head. How was that for a story about a hero?

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
