PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

Making love to a m e m o r y

"If Love himself weep, shall not lovers weep,
learning from what sad cause he pours his tears?
Love hears his ladies crying their distress,
showing forth bitter sorrow through their eyes
because villainous Death has worked its cruel
destructive art upon a gentle heart,
and laid waste all that earth can find to praise
in a gracious lady, save her chastity."

There is a moment of great relief that overcomes Macabre as she and her most valued friend share moments of great joy with one another. It feels like the pieces are finally coming together, and her life, as well as her friend's, are finally back in sync. Macabre can't explain it, but the connection she had with Jetta was different than any other friendship or arrangement she'd experienced with another horse. It was a truly invaluable thing for Macabre. It was something she cherished above all else. She wondered, however, if a child would change that. Not necessarily in a bad way, but still, the thought sometimes weighed heavily on her mind. But she shook it away now with the gentle toss of her head, a content smirk still plastered across her whiskered lips. She and her best friend were about to become mothers together. What a wonderful thing.

Macabre half squeals, half giggles as Jetta registers that her young brother would soon be a father. She bobs her head to confirm, and bumps her friend lightly on the shoulder with her soft nose. "Yes, truly." She says, laughing a bit again. "I know this must sound so strange to you." The petite mare lets her gaze shift out to the forest around them as she recalls that evening on Tinuvel when she and the great dark stallion were reacquainted. "He's all grown up, Jetta. That's for sure." She wanted to tell her friend everything, explore every terrible feeling she had during their brief time away from one another. But it was still so painful to talk about Shiraz.

"After Inka, well..." She began at Jetta's request for details. "You know me. I-I- I don't do well when I'm by myself for long periods of time. I was so heartbroken for you, Jetta, and I didn't know how to help. That manifested into a bit of a depression for myself." She explained, her dark eyes falling to the ground underneath their hooves. "I'm not sure if I ever told you this before, but I had a colt once. His name was Shiraz. He was unhealthy, and doomed to die from the moment he was born. It was an agonizing few months watching him suffer." Macabre surprised even herself at how easily the words came. "It's been years since he died. But I miss him greatly. Every day. During this lonely period on the Peak, I returned to Tinuvel to visit his grave. And oddly enough, that's where I found Diamant."

Her gaze shifts back to her friend, and the chestnut mare struggles to blink away her warm tears. "He was incredibly kind, Jetta, at a very, very low point for me. I am forever grateful." She says, ending with a sheepish grin. The mare breathes a heavy sigh and perks up quickly, ready to change the subject for fear of the looming tears. "So tell me more about this mystery stallion."

There was so much more Macabre needed to tell Jetta. She wanted to tell her about Rowena, and their equally strange meeting in the Ridge. She wanted to talk more about the future of the Peak, and the need for leadership. Together, they were on the cusp of so much.

"Hear then how Love paid homeage to this lady;
I saw him weeping there in human form,
observing the stilled image of her grace;
and more than once he raised his eyes toward Heaven,
where that sweet soul already had its home,
which once, on earth, had worn enchanting flesh."
