I am the razor in the hands of your heart;
And I am the razor in the hands of God.
Evaline offered the buckskin stallion the smallest nod of appreciation and acknowledgement when he addressed his dealings with two of her children. But her side-eyed glare remained on the paler one, the quirky stallion that chose to linger quietly in the distance, even after his aggressive fanfare display to greet them upon their arrival. Evaline couldn't get a good read on the fellow. But she trusted her gut when it told her not to trust him. She would relay this information to Valve later, of course.
Koray only confirmed these suspicions when he lingered for a moment longer after the group broke into two private conversations. She could see it in his tense body language, and the narrowing of his eyes when he looked at Nova that he was the culprit of her daughter's discomfort here. She'd been around enough stallions in her lifetime to be able to pick out the bad ones. Whether or not Koray deserved to be labeled "a bad one" was really up to Nova. Nevertheless, Evaline quietly decided he wasn't the right one for her daughter.
Nova was anxious and stressed. She was too nervous to speak to her mother in their current location, and was relieved by Evaline's ploy to walk toward the pond in the distance. The sooty-colored mare craned her head back to catch Koray's stare before they ambled on. She offered him a brief, weak smile, but didn't know why after she did it. Maybe it was just nerves.
"So the paler one. Koray." Evaline said, her voice low but even as they approached the pool. The golden mare dipped her head and drank eagerly, waiting for an explanation. Nova watched her mother, but her stare kept diverting to her hooves and the sand. She felt small, as if her mother was about to reprimand her for her actions. "After Nephilim disappeared, I was alone for so long. I was desperate. It clouded my judgement." She began. "He wasn't perfect and he wasn't kind, but he seemed like someone I could handle. He's never actually hit me, mom. He's just controlling. But it has gotten worse over time."
She said sadly. Nova decides to join her mother in pursing her lips for a drink at the pool. Evaline drinks to her sides ache, and then stands idly over the pool's edge, considering her daughter's words. "Is he the sire?" She asks, eyeing her daughter's rounded belly. Nova shoots her mother a look of concern from her side eye. "No." She confirms. "But he doesn't know that yet."
"Yet." Evaline confirmed, looking sternly at her daughter now. "And what happens if he does find out?"
She asks, flicking her thick blonde tail over her haunches with interest. Nova swallowed hard, her eyes wide and full of concern. She didn't say anything, and instead, flicked her gaze to the sand at their hooves again.
"I don't intend to let you stick around to find out, Vita Nova." The golden mare finally says, breaking the silence between them. "I will get word to your brother. Just try not to get into trouble until then."
