CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.

CENTRE FOR VETERANS’ HEALTH
Today RHQ had a meeting with the Co-ordinator at the Centre for Veterans’ Health at the King Edward VII’s Hospital which is in London. The Co-ordinator outlined what the Centre for Veterans’ Health provides and also the other medical services that King Edward VII’s Hospital provides to serving military personnel, veterans, spouses and widows (but not dependant children).
Please note that King Edward VII’s Hospital is no longer just for officers but is open to all of the categories listed above. I attach the flyer which provides more information. Or for more information with reference to the hospital see:

VETERANS PAIN CLINIC
The Veterans Pain Clinic will be free of charge to all veterans (NB just veterans not spouses etc) who are able to provide Proof of Service. The costs are to be covered by the Hospitals’ Military Grants Fund charity.
The consultant is Dr Dominic Aldington. Having served in the Royal Army Medical Corps he was the Subject Matter Expert in Pain to the Surgeon General and was responsible for organising pain relief from the point of injury until a casualty left the service. This saw him working at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court and the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine in Birmingham, as well as undertaking a number of deployments during his career. He will liaise with your NHS GP helping you to optimise your pain management. A GP referral letter will be required before attending.

PAIN MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME
What is a Pain Management Programme?
Pain management programmes are widely recognised as the treatment of choice for individuals suffering with persistent pain. The clinical staff of the Pain Management Programme for Veterans (PMP) at King Edward VII’s Hospital are leaders in the field of pain management, with years of experience of helping people with persistent pain to improve the quality of their lives.
Highlights of the PMP at King Edward VII’s Hospital:
• Their approach is interdisciplinary (combining knowledge coming from different fields of science) which allows them to better address the complex nature of your condition and give you the tools to deal more effectively with both its physical and psychological aspects;
• They know that not understanding what is happening in your body can magnify the feeling of pain as well as all the negative emotions associated with it. As a part of the programme they will help you develop a greater understanding of your condition. For example, they will dedicate time to explain you the changes it produces in your nervous system and the differences between acute (short-lived) and chronic pain (which persists beyond the point of healing);
• They know that suffering from constant pain can feel very isolating and confusing. Thus, their programme has been designed to not only offer you a wide range of pain management strategies but to also provide a support group – the group setting of the course allows you to share your experiences and gain insights from the other participants in the programme who also suffer from chronic pain;
• They provide the programme free of charge to anyone who has served in the UK Armed Forces.
King Edward VII Hospital financially supports serving military personnel, veterans, spouses and widows through the Military Grants Fund for medical treatment – surgery, procedures and investigations. NB Not oncology, cardiac, neuro surgery.
A means tested grant can offer up to 100% towards the cost of hospital procedures carried out at the hospital. The means test is based on income and any savings but not including any property value. The threshold when you may be expected to contribute for any treatment is not as low as you may think. It should also be noted that all serving military personnel, veterans, spouses and widows are also given an automatic 20% discount and that this is not means tested.
