PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

JETTA

As she waited for her friend to tell her all the details that had led to Macabre’s coupling with Diamant, Jetta could feel her heart beating like the wings of a caged bird. She did not expect Macabre to tell her everything, of course - if not because some details were too personal to share, then simply because they were grown mares now, and there was a certain unspoken agreement of decorum between adults such as them.

For instance, once Jetta had become old enough to wonder whether Macabre had ever been in love or had children, she had also become old enough to know that it might be inappropriate to ask. Macabre had never willingly volunteered the information before, which suggested at the very least that there was nothing significant to tell, and that if there was, the scars they had left behind were too deep and personal to expose.

Thankfully, Jetta was patient, and secure in her friendship with Macabre. In her mind, the strength of their bond did not rely on knowing every last mundane detail about one another.

Even still, the effect Macabre’s story of her dead son had on Jetta was significant. The mare’s smile slipped from her pink lips, and she listened intently while her heart felt as though it was being painfully crushed. It did not matter that her friend showed no evidence that she was still grieving Shiraz; it hurt Jetta to think of Macabre grieving for her son all alone. It hurt her to know that she had not been there to support her.

“Macabre, I’m so sorry. I had no idea,” she replied quietly, and might have reached forward to envelop the little chestnut mare in an embrace, had the mare not swiftly moved the conversation along. Jetta forced a gentle smile onto her face and pushed the topic out of her mind.

“My mystery stallion? Oh…” Her blue eyes searched the leafy canopy overhead, and a dreamlike expression came over her. Her heart quickened at the memory “He was young - about Diamant’s age - but so handsome, Macabre. I met him down in the common grounds completely by chance, and he was so charming… He said his name was Zevulun. I could not resist him. I’ve never felt like that before.”

Her gaze found Macabre again, and a playful smile twisted her mouth. “It seems we both have a taste for the younger ones. I take it Diamant doesn’t know, then? When will you tell him?”
