PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

JETTA

Though Merete had revealed that she’d been told about Diamant’s parentage, Jetta had not failed to notice her choice of words: “his parents”. She was just beginning to wonder exactly how much the young stallion had told Merete - specifically, whether he had explained that Inka was not his mother by blood - when Merete confirmed her suspicions.

Jetta nodded thoughtfully. In a way, it was surprising that Diamant - normally so reserved - had unloaded all of this information on a near-stranger, but Jetta knew just how troubled and not like himself he had been since Inka’s death. Faced with a reunion with a long-lost relative in a strange place on a strange island, she could only imagine that he would have seized the opportunity to connect with someone in a similar situation.

She was mulling this over so intently that she did not immediately pick up on the significance of what Merete said next. When it dawned on her, her lips parted in surprise. “Oh, I’m so sorry,” she said, her tone rich with sympathy. So Merete and Diamant had more in common than she had first thought - than anyone had first thought, it seemed. They had both been kept in the dark for so long.

“What a sticky situation this all is,” she began with a heavy sigh. “I always knew what Diamant was - it would have been hard for my mother to hide the truth from me, given I met your parents and saw him arrive not long after. The two of them had been staying in the Peak with us, and one day when Mother brought home a little colt with Het Vuur’s eyes and Sterre’s star, I knew - even before Mother confirmed it. Inka told me that he would be raised as my brother, and that he was never to know any different, and nor was anyone else. I respected her wishes, but I always worried something like this would happen... Did he tell you about my siblings, by the way? You have another niece and nephew, Adelheid and Argento.

“Anyway, as far as I know, neither of them know any better either. Adelheid was old enough to see him adopted, but I don’t believe Mother ever told her where she came from, and Ade never questioned it.”
She sighed again. It hurt to speak of her sister. “I haven’t seen Adelheid in so long. She and Mother fell out the day Gent was born; she never even got to meet him properly.”

She offered Merete a wry smile. “Our family really has a flair for the dramatic, don’t they? So where have you been all these years? Do you still keep in touch with anyone?”
