I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

- Zelda -

She was distraught, she knew Pine was angry, that she wanted her pound of flesh for her member, but she never expected something like this. Her paws looked so bad, and her face… her face maybe Zelda could have understood, could have maybe looked past to some degree, or maybe even just somehow draining her, but all three seemed incredibly extreme. She did her best to mend the flesh as best she could. Her ears pinned against her head, not knowing her apologies might not have been understood, but she knew she could have changed things. All of this felt an awful lot like her fault. If she hadn’t blindly trusted Diveen when they had took her, and pursued it, if she hadn’t taken so long to get the answers, been more firm with Pine perhaps that she understood that this wasn’t better. Her body shook, placing a little more aloe on before placing some Old man’s beard lichen on it to keep it from getting infected.

Starfall spoke then, but she couldn’t bring herself to wretch her eyes from the soft rise and fall of the female’s sides and chest, convinced that at any moment it could be her last. Pine’s words rung in her ears, that too much blood had been shed in Iromar, but something told Zelda that her ending that she would hate to shed more didn’t seem entirely true… She had thought Pine a kind and just wolfess, she wanted to take her home from Aranak, a murderer, a heartless wolf who didn’t care about even his own family, who made excuses for killing a child. Pine was still better, she knew that, but this… this wasn’t a good start to her leadership. Perhaps Iromar was simply cursed to have rulers with a taste for blood... This wasn’t a good way to use her newfound power gained as an alpha. Zelda would be sure to mention it… she wouldn’t take such disregard of her warning, her words, laying down. She had high hopes for Pine, that she would be everything and more that Iromar needed to get a fresh lease on life, especially with Zelda’s cousin at her side. Now Zelda just felt empty.

Her mother had come then, relieving her mostly, more calm and gentle. Her warning and slight scolding received a numb, silent response where she just looked over the female and what had been done. Her mind could only go to how she had asked Pine to show mercy… and if this was her opinion of mercy she wasn’t sure about anything that she knew about the moor wolfess anymore. Pine was both right and wrong about one thing, there was never only one outcome, but this outcome was worse than that that Zelda could have imagined. Her mother’s words only brought mild relief. Starfall was right in some ways. His anger justified and surely only more fueled by the bond he was forced to have with the silver and black wolfess. His last words though cut Zelda like a warm knife through butter.

”Th-they…. Enjoyed it?” She stammered meekly tears welling up in her eyes again, this wasn’t what she had hoped for… wanted. She had asked one thing of Pine and that was mercy! She thought they were friends enough that she would have respected that wish, but this brash action spoke louder than any words Zelda ever could have heard from the small wolfess. Who could… enjoy this though? Who but someone so twisted and insane that surely all reality was skewed and darkened. They killed their prey with more mercy than what Arace received.

”Nothing you are saying is wrong, if you hadn’t been there, she would have died. Slowly, either by bleeding or starving, or something or someone else could have come along. The night beasts at the very least could have found her. Ended it. No… no mercy, which was the only thing I had asked Pine to give until we figured everything out at least, was the only thing I asked, for you if no one else. I can’t imagine what you must be feeling… I’m so sorry, Starfall. I will not let this go, I have no love for Arace, but I do for life, and I found out that Diveen, had nothing to do with this… All of this is of someone else’s doing. Maybe you can try to figure out the name of who sent her. All I know now is that a wolf of Diveen acted on their own to cause this, and I was too late to tell Pine and spare Arace all of this, or most of it.”

Again Zelda understood if they wanted their pound of flesh… she got it, but what had happened, what this was… had gone too far. If Pine expected Zelda to be happy that she at least spared her life, looking at her paws, her condition, if Starfall hadn’t come by she would have died. Not by Pine’s paws, or her packs but she still would have been the root of it. Starfall was right though… would she be able to walk? Survive on her own even? Her paws broken as they were would she even be able to creep up on prey to feed herself anymore.

She sees the wolfess stirr and her body tenses slightly. Arace… still was a bad wolf, she wondered if there was any shred of gratitude for what they were doing for her, any level of understanding that by no means Taviora didn’t have to do this. Zelda could only hope she did, hope that once she was better, maybe she could get more answers, and finally get to the root of the problem that was sparked between the two packs. The mystery wolf that had stolen Arace that lived in Diveen.

”We will help you carry her to your den…. I figure.. That’s where you would want her for now?” She asked tilting her head slightly. ”I will have guards there, to protect her from others and others from her. I know in her condition she’s not going anywhere any time soon. When she recovers more I would like to try and talk to her though, or if you can ask her who sent her from Diveen and tell me, I just want the information. I want to figure out why this is happening. I hope you can understand, and I am sorry to still… put you through all this.” After that, when or if she recovered, Zelda would then reevaluate her threat to those here in Taviora. For now Starfall could keep her close, watch her. Zelda knew it would be quite some time before she would be any problem to them again. She might have been making a mistake. Maybe she couldn’t be saved, but she had to try and be sure.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
