Mystery solved! I was wondering why Albert Sheperd was unseen at the 'Rivington' cafe for some time after all he was a regular visitor for so long. I first met Albert in Cyprus and later we served in Germany, me as a National service man, Albert a young regular. We later met again as members of Leigh Premier cycling club and sometime we met in Bolton as I did a bit of shopping.
Browsing the Lancashire Fusiliers web page I saw the reason for Albert's absence from the Rivington, pictured in the Bury Times was my friend Albert at the cafe situated at our old training ground, formerly Bury Barracks. I had already been informed by Albert's mate, Bill of the Horwich cycling club that he was visiting the cafe. Now Albert is truly connected with his past as the proprietors posted a life size poster picture of Albert on the wall of the cafe, a tribute to all that passed out as fusiliers at the barracks.
