Boss's Decree

"For every brother you bring to our
midst, you may keep a trinket all to
yourself. She will not be sullied or traded, unless you deem otherwise. But should you bring a mare here without a new brother first, then I will consider her property of the Lagoon as a whole
and do with her as I see fit." - Garmr

Rules

• The Lagoon is where homeless stallions come to live as a brotherhood. Mares may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Soldiers keep mainly to fighting, Thieves keep mainly to raiding, and Associates may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Marauder or Boss for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Boss maintains order within the Lagoon and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Lagoon works on the Rules page.

• Upon election, the Boss can issue a rule for members to follow during their tenure. It is up to leadership to enforce.

ARGENTO

Jaxon spoke of wanting to stir things up, of wanting to prove himself and collect more mares. Gent’s ears pricked with interest. He was not so interested in these tidbits of information as he was in the fact that Jaxon wanted to prove himself to Gent. This confirmed Gent’s suspicions that somehow he’d already earned the bachelor stallion’s respect by simply holding the title of Boss. Otherwise, surely Jaxon would be demanding Gent to prove himself as leader, instead of the other way around.

In any case, it was certainly an intriguing change of events, and Gent’s mind raced to calculate how to handle it. He was not used to his ego being stroked; suddenly the two inches of height between them felt like a mile, and it was dizzying. One thing he knew immediately, however: he would be a fool not to use this to his advantage. He needed all the allies he could get.

“I admire your initiative, Jaxon,” Gent replied with a smile. “Of course, you don’t need my permission to do what the bachelors have always done. As I said at our gathering, you can consider me your boss in name only; after all, the Lagoon needs a leader, even if he is only a figurehead to give the herds a name to remember. Otherwise I am nothing more than your brother and equal.”

He paused thoughtfully, and shifted his weight, his hooves sticking noisily in the mud. His blue eyes, almost grey in the fading light, appraised Jaxon for a moment.

“You strike me as an honorable man: someone with a moral code. Can I confide something in you? I worry that… some of the others may not have the Lagoon’s best interests in mind. They wish to terrorize and harm others, and be unnecessarily cruel, and say it is so the herds know and fear us. But I fear they do it because they wish to prove their manhood, and to me that is the mark of an insecure stallion. It’s always been my opinion that true strength is knowing what you are capable of, without flaunting it or using it to control others. What do you think, Jaxon? I’d like your opinion.”
