The forest stands tall and lush here; ancient trees reach weather-twisted arms to the sky, fighting monster-like storm clouds back with their interlacing fingers. Shadow seems to lurk everywhere you look, but it spills calmly, coolly, inspiring a sense of stealthy calm or protection rather than unease. That is, if you've forgotten what kind of creature might be stalking just out of sight...Abendrot is a land cradled by the dark woods on all sides; in the center, some of the larger trees stay behind to reveal a small plateau - a citadel where this pack can gather and defend itself from invaders. There are, of course, softer sides to the land. Clearings here and there allow the sun to throw down its rays in incongruously resplendent gold showers. Ignore the lingering scents of blood spattered here and there along the borders: those do not concern you. The river on one edge of the territory is playful enough when it hasn't been gorged by violent rain. You can choose to note the ragged claw marks raked down tree trunks and the forest floor as friendly "Home Sweet Home" signs, if you wish.

All who treasure loyalty, order, victory, and the occasional indulgence of raw visceral pleasure are welcome, once they've been approved by the ever-watchful eyes of Abendrot's Alpha. But keep one thing in mind: no matter what your motive, this is not a fool's Paradise. This is the land of soldiers, assassins, and spies. This is ABENDROT.

Make up your mind quickly and prepare to prove your worth. You wouldn't want to add to those blood spatters, would you...?

Despite her fear of him, she could not comprehend why he was not hurting her yet. Instead, he was cleaning her wound. He was caring for her. And, finally, he moved off of her and no longer kept her trapped beneath him. Olya kept very still, waiting for him to pounce. Waiting for the blow to fall. But it never did. Instead, he laid down upon the ground next to her, and spoke gently to her. He called himself a gentleman and called it his duty to take care of her. And the next part? He offered to help her get home. That line, that one line shook her once again. For she had no home, neither she nor Lilith did. The lands were likely divvied up by now, and all of the remaining wolves had likely switched their allegiance. For that was the way of the main and Wolf for she had no home, neither she nor Lilith did. The lands were likely divvied up by now, and all of the remaining wolves had likely switched their allegiance. For that was the way of the maned wolf - for their primary allegiance to be to themselves first, to their survival. The only question was, with whom did their loyalty now lay? Was it with the faraway clan? With the council? Or was it with the other clan, the one who had sought to steal Lilith? The one who had once again beaten Olya, hoping to get answers out of her? Suddenly, they are straightforward plan of finding kalak wolves from the council seemed very difficult indeed-after all, how would she be able to tell them apart? They would be expert manipulative warriors no matter what, and she would know not what to believe.

The handmaiden mimicked the brute who had cared for her, and stood, albeit on shaky legs. Cautiously, she shook out her pelt, righting the misplaced hairs that he had offset due to his own body upon hers. She froze, looking to him, seeing if he would discipline her, but no discipline came. Fear still ran thickly in her eyes, and though she was rather unsteady on her limbs, she took a step back away from him. Her home and it would now be wherever mistress Lilith was, and her mission would be to find her. Or, rather, to find Kirastasia. "Thank you for… helping me. I appreciate your effort, and I apologize for wasting your time. This slave is sorry to have bothered you." despite all of his claims, part of her just could not believe him. After all, her entire life she has been taught something else. I could not change over the course of a single day. So, she had remained completely and utterly plate to him, just in case he was a spy, or there was a Lord watching over them, testing her reactions. Before he could respond again, she turned head to tail and began to make her way down the treacherous slope of the mountain. Rock and sleet broke away and she ended up sliding down most of it, tiny little cuts forming on her pads and bruises forming anytime she fell. But she was used to cuts, she was used to bruises, and this was nothing.

*********

But her path had not let her wear she had thought it would. Instead, she had first found her way to a set of cascades, where she had met yet another wolf claiming neither to be a spy nor a slave. With Kirastasia and Siku, just two wolves, it had been easier to believe them liars than to believe them. But with the addition of this third wolf, Camille, the young kalak had began to question everything she had ever been taught. And so, she had finally turned her sights upon searching out the two wolves that she had originally left. It had not taken her long to find her mistress and the strange Kira. They had hardly left the spot where Olya had left them, and they were both still in high spirits, laughing and bonding. Without a word, the handmaiden had slipped to her mistress' side, her head down respectively at the level of Lilith's shoulder. Too much today had happened for her mind to be able to focus, and so instead of saying anything, she's kept quiet and introspective. When Kira had suggested bringing them to a park for them to join for safety, Lilith had readily agreed and Olya had said nothing. Her aching paws and tired muscles screamed for rest but still she remained silent as they made their way to wherever they were being lead. Days of travel went by, and they kept on at a steady but leisurely pace, with the other two wolves talking the entire way. But she said nothing still, and instead went over every single lesson-had it all just been one big lie? Did they just tell her all of that information to make her play complacent, to steal any hope of a scape away from her? It surely did seem that way. When they finally stopped, Olya nearly walked right over the boundary, too caught up in her own mind and thoughts to notice the scent. But then it flooded into her nares, and she realized that it was a scent that she knew. Slowly, she backed away step by step, shaking her head until she was once again at Lilith's side. "It can't be... Siku?"

.:. I was a gift my my mistress .:. And though she treats me well .:. It's impossible to forget I'm a slave .:.
