aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Though Sera should have known that she had nothing to fear when it came to Vladimir, doubt still swirled in the pit of her stomach. She was no stranger to broken promises and heartache. First there had been Dante, who had never returned for her little sister, though she had sworn to. Then, just as Sera had come to realize how she felt about Vlad, her parents had crushed any hope she might have had of being with him. And proceeded to refute her feelings in regards to the whole betrothal. Because she was too young. How many times had she heard that line? It always seemed to come with some sort of pain. She was too young to help Dante out - Dante never came back. She was too young to make her own decision - Vladimir had nearly left the picture and her parents had lorded over her. She was too young to know what love was - Kael had proven his true character and had died. Sera seemed to always put her trust in the wrong wolves.

But Vlad was different. Sera really wanted to believe that he was, at least. He said he loved her, but hadn’t others said that before? Dante and her parents. And Seraphina didn’t think that she would be able to hold it together if he left her too one day. Maybe because she knew him better than she knew anyone else, or because they were friends even before anything else. Maybe because she loved him with her whole heart. Maybe because he really was all she had left. For whatever reason, she needed to know how he could be sure. She needed to be sure that he wouldn’t realize that this was all a mistake. Vlad furrowed his brows in thought for a moment before responding. “I don’t know how to explain it, Sera. I can feel you in my very bones - where you are, your emotions. I suppose it is something akin to the way baby birds imprint upon their mothers…” Sera giggled as the prince blushed at his comparison, quickly backtracking. “Not that what we have is the relationship between a babe and its parent. Or that we are Lera. I just mean… It just is. There is no one else for me. You have ruined me for all others, and my heart and soul are yours. Even if I wished to change it - which I don’t - there is nothing I could do.”

Seraphina may not have been able to feel Vlad’s emotions, but she could feel the depth of his love for her. And while she was regretful that there was no such magic to allow her to love him with the same fervor, she truly loved him with her whole heart. There was no one else for Sera, nor had there ever been. She had never looked upon any other as she did upon Vladimir. It was an unexplainable feeling, the way she felt around him. The ache in her heart when she’d believed that they would truly be separated spoke to that. There was the spark, of course, the tingling that ran through her when they made contact, and the fluttering in her stomach when she watched him, but it was more than that. Sera was generally rather feisty, but with Vlad it was more to be playful than anything. The walls she had built because of her parents were melted in his presence and she felt warmer than she ever had. Sera was Sera when she was with the prince, more than she was with anyone else. Even Dante had never this effect on the princess.

Vladimir began to move and Seraphina trotted forward to stand by his side. This was how things would be from then on and there was nothing she wanted more. The dream that she had had for so long had finally come true and nothing would pull her from Vlad’s side from this day forth. A sudden ripple ran through the earth. On reflex, Seraphina hunkered low to the ground, ears back and eyes wide as the terra shook again, more powerfully this time. The very land was changing right beneath her feet. The grinding of rock against rock resounded through Aurora -no, Dierne Hrof something told her - and Sera’s emeralds widened to see mountains rising up to form a barrier that had never been there before. When at least the earth settled, she stood with shaking legs, not entirely scared of what had just happened but thoroughly confused. If the princess had doubted the existence of magic before, she certainly didn’t anymore. Her mind turned back to Vlad, probably still tired from his fight and her eyes searched around for him.

“Vlad?” The words were laced with a concern, an unasked question of whether or not he was alright. And then, “Do you know what’s happening? Is this related to…” there was a pause as she tried to think of the right word. “Tempests and vampires and all that?”
