Date: Spring | ♥ | Mood: In awe. |
The weeks had passed, spending most of his time with Rozenn and Everlast, and when he'd get a free moment to go hunting, he'd go by the edge of Spirane as well, eyeing Aurelia when he got a chance to see her from a distance. He was beginning to get antsy though, he was wanting to cross those boundaries and make his presence around her known. He watched carefully though, and knew he needed to keep a closer eye on her. But on the flip side, he had to feed Everlast, and their little girl. He felt a strange stirring of pride when he looked at that little fluff ball of grey and white. She was small, yes, but she looked so much like a perfect mix between the two of them, and her eyes, damn, they were his father's dark blue, that was certain. They had an edge of Everlast to them though, and it made his rose even more special.
He would bring back food for him and Everlast. Rozenn was not quite up to eating meat on her own, but they tried the whole regurgitation route. She was barely picking that up, but he knew that steadily she'd get it down pact. He'd come before, when Aurelia wanted to speak to him and another male. She'd explained she didn't know if the pups were his, the others, or a mix, and to be honest, it didn't bother him. The sights of seeing her grow bigger and bigger from the sidelines of Spirane had proved she was carrying more than a single whelp like Everlast had, which made him nervous to be honest. The idea of more pups, well, it thrilled him, but terrified him all the same. He'd more than gladly share the responsibility with this bloke. He'd told Aurelia as much. He wasn't going to give her grief about it, it was the way things went. He had flat out told her that no matter what she'd need, he'd be there. He had other obligations to Everlast and Rozenn, but there was a chance the pups were his--or majority his, and he'd be there. He wasn't sure how he'd work it out, but he'd make do. He'd tell Everlast, he had too.
But settling in front of the den one morning, the girls inside sleeping, he'd heard the cry from across the island. And he ducked inside, verifying that both bodies were still asleep, giving a gentle touch to both before he took off at a fast paced lope. He jumped over logs, and splashed through the streams. Moving his large body in such an agile way that would look strange to any onlooker, but it was the fastest he could go. He'd found himself moving among the familiar path he'd taken many, many times before, and had come across a rather large deer fawn, she'd been maybe six months, passed out in the long grasses. A grin split across his face. He'd make a habit of bringing food to those birthing, it seemed.
The kill had taken mere moments, to surprise the sleeping fawn and snap her neck with a snap of his jaws. Sliding to a stop at the edges of Spirane, he dropped the still hot body at his feet as he drew in an uncertain breath, unsure if he'd have guards on his ass for entering, or if because Aurelia had called him, and Baird, that he'd be welcome without trouble. He shook off the feeling as the familiar scent of blood and new life hit his nose. He'd brave it, at this point, it didn't matter.
He moved swiftly across the land, his nose leading him towards the den that smelled of Aurelia, and blood. The copper was bitter in the back of his taste buds and he cringed at the taste. He already had a mouthful of the blood from the fawn, but this was a different taste, the blood of birthing, of someone who he held special in his heart. He heard her call out, welcoming whoever outside in. He dropped the body just inside the mouth of the den. He dropped down, his belly rubbing against the cold ground. He found himself crawling inside, his much larger frame a tight squeeze, but he'd make it. His eyes met hers, a soft glance as he settled across from her, moving himself back in case they were joined by Baird-Robichaux was not sure if the man was coming, or had already made it.
He reached out, his nose brushing against the masked girl's shoulder, a gentle greeting, before his eyes fell upon the trio of girls tucked against her teats. "My my my, Chère, you've done an unremarkable job. They're stunning. Have you named them all?" His speech was soft, gentle, and calm. His heart knew nearly automatically the girl tucked into the middle was his. Baird was not white and black. He'd thought he'd seen some white on the male, but that startling coat...It was something he felt nearly automatically in his soul, she was his. But he figured time would tell, right? He reached out, his nose hovering over each of the girls, letting his mind register each and every note about their smells. It was hard to do through the smell of the birth, but he would do it. He pulled back, only to extend a leg towards the carcass at the mouth of the den, pushing it towards Aurelia, a lopsided grin on his face. "You'll need your strength" Gentle words, a smooth delivery, he pulled himself backwards a little, even though every fiber in his being told him to reach out, touch each of them, and to hold her, but he wasn't sure how well she'd accept that kind of attention. So for now, he allowed himself to watch, his eyes glued to Aurelia more than the pups, although his gaze dropped to the suckling pups often. It was a wonder how he'd kept his cool.
