Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

INDIGO
SOFT BREATH, BEATING HEART
AS I WHISPER IN YOUR EAR
I WANT TO FUCKING TEAR YOU APART

A scent whispered to her on the breeze. She had been licking her paw clean of blood until she was distracted by the appearance of a stranger. Indigo heard him approach, making enough noise to scare off an entire forest of animals. Her head tilted, curious but possessive. He seemed to know her sister, as he said her name and asked if she was okay. Why? Was sister Vasily injured? Indigo let out a snarl almost too savage for one her age. Myrhh, sister Vasily said. A name for the cloudy-eyed man. He seemed confused and lost. Sister Vasily seemed to think the same thing and asked what he was doing. She often asked that when someone was doing something stupid.

Was the cloudy-eyed man an idiot?

Indigo was summoned. She rose to her feet, favoring her injured paw slightly. It seemed as though sister Vasily had already introduced her. At the word stupid a growl mounted in her throat. The crab was evil. It had been a valiant effort on her part to destroy it. She glared upwards at the cloudy-eyed man, curiously examining the scars that crossed his face. Had he been savaged by some creature? Indigo looked again towards her sister. Had sister Vasily done it? Their scents seemed to intermingle, as if they were connected somehow. She did not understand. He was not family and yet sister Vasily was comfortable around him and called him by name. Long ago sister Vasily had told Indigo never to trust anyone who was not family. She was supposed to trust him?

Indigo growled again, inching towards the stranger and sniffing at his paws. Blood was beginning to seep into the fur of her paws again but the injury was not very bothersome. She was more concerned with this stranger who had intruded. The girl stamped her uninjured paw on the ground and shot daggers at her sister. Just who the hell was this?
